: Rear suspension design ?'s

Well I have nailed down my XJ's front suspension plans so now its time for the rear.

I'm swapping in a 14 bolt from a cab/chassis 1 ton(62" wide) and the rear disc conversion will hit the rear springs. I either need to move the springs in and under the frame or get wild... By wild I mean a triangulated 3 link with 1/4 elliptic springs. The plan is to build a subframe that runs from the front LCA mounts back past the front rear spring mount. For LCA's I think some 2.5" johnny joints on both ends and 2" 1/2" wall tube(or so) drilled and tapped for adjustment on frame end. The upper arm would use 3/4" heims on the frame end and a 1" heim from Avalanche for the axle end. The LCA mounts would be 3/4" below the axle centerline The UCA mount will be spaced 8" higher than the LCA mounts on the axle. At the frame mounts the difference will be 6". The upper arm might have a slightly longer effective length than the LCA's. My goal is to keep the pinion within 4 degrees of the driveshaft angle at full droop. Crossmembers and such will be designed as needed. The spring mounts will be in about the same place as the stock front mounts and won't interfere with the caliper since they won't go back that far. I'd run some poly bushings on the axle for the shackle mounts or heims. The axle will also be relocated to the rear slightly which will require the gas tank to be raised though the floor and more fender work. For shocks 14" travel ones would be mounted straight up and down though the floor to a custom cross member. A limiting strap will be used in the center of the axle.

That's the basic plan. Your input would be appreciated. :D :D :D

Sounds good on paper.

Too bad we don't wheel on paper...

I'll be making up a model to figure out arm length soon. I'm thinking around 3' would be right.

I used coils, not 1/4 ellip, but you might be interested in my triangulated 4 link.
See my sig for a link to details.

The lowers are 36" long, the uppers are 40".
