That doesn't surprise me at all, especially Potato Salad Hill, which is not on a trail, sees heavy traffic, and is obviously getting heavily erosioned.

Last year during 'Cruise Moab we talked to one of the BLM guys and he said the BLM was considering closing down Pritchett Canyon because of severe trail damage. Sadly, Moab is the victim of its own success, the more people that show up, the more evident the effects on the trail, and the more chances that some moron is going to dump a case of empty beer bottles right on top of a patch of cryptobiotic soil....

So no cutting the corner to get on Hell's Revenge now, right? I think that could be part of the problem. Not paying the land use fee for one of the most popular trails.

Now you will have to go to the check point and pay...am I right?

No you can still go in the back rout through the flat land left/north turn before you get to lions back. but this is going in reverse but who cares I just do the obsticles on this trail I dont care witch direction I come in!

Why would you *want* to get in without paying? Does it cost a ton?

Just curious. Here we are complaining about trail closures, and in the same thread discussing how to avoid paying to use the trails that are still open!

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

I am just saying that that is probably one of the factors closing that obstacle. It is right by the gate and TONS of people gather there and dring and watch people get stupid on the Bump Dump ledges.

Once up the bump dump it is a simple left turn onto Hell's revenge. Most are not avoiding paying on purpose, they just don't take the time to go up the the booth and pay before they try the Bump Dump. To answer the question it is CHEAP to wheel there. $5 a day I think.

Glad to hear that. If it was expensive, I'd say it's their own fault for charging too much... As it is, though, I don't mind a small fee to "pay to play".

As far as making it easy to get on Hell's Revenge from Dump Bump, seems like that's more an enforcement issue. I'm not familiar with that area, but surely there must be a way to collect the fee there -- what about one of those little boxes like the Forest Service uses at self-service campgrounds?

I don't think it is an issue with paying. It is more than likely an issue with the fact that this wall is close to the road, and when you drive by it, it can be quite a Black Eye sore.
If you take all the times that the greenies drive by and see that black wall, it will only be a matter of time before someone tries to put a end to it.
If these wall was not so visible to the standard public, it would more than likely not be a problem.

This is only a possibility, I have no idea why they are shutting it down.

The last time I was there (with several of you, Morgan, Charles Kim, Medusa), the area around Dump Bump was, well, a DUMP. Tons of trash, beer bottles everywhere. Like I said, these places are victims of their own success....
