I have these two faults and the stealership wants $2865 to change both CATs and O2 sensors. It seems to me reading up on it could be something else.

Anyone had these faults or have any advise?

Also where is the purge valve to check it like the procedure below says to do below?

Thanks

P0441
Evap Purge Valve Incorrect Flow Fault
P0420
Catalyst Efficiency Low Fault Bank A

DTC P0441

1. Start the vehicle and allow the engine to reach operating temperature.

2. Check the purge control valve by listening to or feeling the purge valve to check for modulation.

3. Disconnect the hose that runs between the purge control valve and the charcoal canister at the charcoal canister (quick fit connector). Check for vacuum while the purge valve is modulating.

4. If there is no vacuum, the valve is stuck closed; replace the purge control valve. If there is vacuum, go to step 5.

5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the purge control valve while the valve is still modulating. Check for vacuum at the hose that was disconnected in step 3. If there is vacuum, the purge control valve is stuck open and must be replaced.

It may be either or a stupid vac/evap/emis system leak I brought my disco 1 (94) to plaza(local rover shop in st louis) And after brand new o2s I put in it it threw both codes :shaking: But my cats are in fact clogged  I dont have emis. in my county so :flipoff2: if you do have to replace the cats look at some high flow performance cats with the same catalyst ability around $120 a piece and weld the suckers in it is easy to get to just drop the front shaft to get to the pass side one IF its a disco like I gots :grinpimp:

Seems like a question for D_Web :flipoff2:

What year and model?

Test and change the purge valve, replace if needed.
Replace the O2's.
Clear all codes.

It is a 97 discovery.

I had the 0441 code coming and going in my 96, until it decided to lodge itself permanently. The only cure to that was to replace the charcoal canister together with that purge valve - the dealer won't sell it separately. About $150 or so, and I have no nighttime distractions anymore.

You can also disconnect the connector going to the purge valve and jump them with a hot and a ground to see if it opens. You will be able to hear or feel it "click" if it is working. If it does nothing then it's not working. Be careful though because the leads are pretty close together. You don't want to short at the valve leads or you may not get the connector back in.

I also am getting the 0441 code. The purge valve is located right by the intake hose and plenum chamber (at least it is on my 95 RR). It looks like a cone shaped piece of rubber. I can clear my code which solves the problem for about a month or two, however it will come back. I have heard that the purge valve is known to go bad...until it becomes a real problem for me, I'll just clear the codes.

On a different topic, does your screename mean "Northern California Wheelin" or "No California Wheelin"? I'm in NorCal, thus the question.

Well if its the latter I am sure he will be joining the band soon considering the mods ar all from CA :flipoff2:

I am not sure how Joe Lucas managed this one but now my Saturn is throughing up a 441 and I blame this post. If I hadn't read it my car would be fine.

The check engine light went out later the other night after getting a new muffler installed since the pipe was leaking before the muffler alittle. I read somewhere maybe an exhuast leak could give you these errors and I had a small one. I was able to check the purge valve and it is opening correctly.

We will see if the light stays off now..

Now I got everything taken care of so hopefully someone will come buy it.
