Sadly the 55 won't be flying over any Pismo Dunes. Not because of the carnage resulting from the Oregon Dunes, but because of the $3.00 gas prices!!!

Is there any problem with not making a reservation for a campsite, and just getting one when I get up there? I would think that about the only people up there at that time of year would be the Surf-n-Turf group.

You do not need to make reservations for the oceano dunes that time of year. I'm not even sure if they take reservations or not. They have plenty of camping area around the shoreline, and a little camping area with restrooms and fire pits tucked back in the dunes a bit that no one really uses much. Those dunes are cool, but my slow little piggy isn't too much of a dune jumper, or climber for that matter. No matter, the pig and a keg or two of homebrew will be there. But being a desert rat, I hate that saltwater. It puts an instant rust coat on everything bare or scratched.

pismojim
09-23-2005, 10:42 AM
That's right. There is plenty of room for camping on the beach. However, the overnight camping is limited to 1,000 vehicles. This limit is being reached more and more during the summer months, holidays and three day weekends. However, Surf N Turf weekdend has not even come close to selling out. (That's why we like this time of year, we'll almost have the place to ourselves.)

Nonetheless, many people make a big comittment to get here and the piece of mind of a reservation is well worth the $10 fee at Reserve America online.

A good rinse after playing on the beach takes care of the rust issues, really. I'd put my beach cruisers up against any others for a ferrous oxide comparasion. Its not that big of a deal if you don't drive in the surf zone. Especially, if you have a leaky main seal. ;-)

Do I need a sand flag?

Thanks

You do not need to have a flag on a street legal rig, one that has a license plate.

Cant hurt to have a flag safety wise though.

pismo sold out this weekend but there was a quad enduro race. They re opened up a ot of the beach front now so you don't have 1000 campers in 1/2 the sapce they need. I'll probably head up there but I dont' have a LC or 4x4 toyota, but I do have a 2x4 toyota. here's a pic or 2...Here's one before I got rid of the flames.

A few of the locals made a pre-run of the Las Chiches trail yesterday. The trailhead is 8 miles or twenty minutes from Pozo. It's only 3 miles long and the return (its a loop) is 7 miles. It took us two hours round trip from the saloon. We stopped for the usually BS'ing, pictures, etc.

The trail suitable for any 4WD. It follows a ridge top with OUTSTANDING views in all directions. The trial is primarily used by motorcycles and some places are narrow with brush. The biggest obstacles are steep sections with loose rocks (It's steeper than it looks in pictures) and water bars. There are a few rutted sections where you may drag your diff on a stock rig. It looks like a great trail for Surf n Turf.

We stopped at Pozo Saloon for a gallon of Fat Tire ale. We tlaked with Rhonda the owner about next weekend. She still feels bad about the food/service delays last year. THis year she is bringing in lots of Tri Tip and Chicken and will provide us are very own BBQ in the back. It will be delicious, reasonable and quick.

The weather was perfect.

Here's a few pics of the Las Chiches trail on IH8MUD:

I'd like to thank Pismo Jim for all his hard work putting this event together. I spoke with him for about 10 minutes and I had a much better appreciation for all the time and energy it takes to host an event of this magnitude.
