Just wondering what everyone is using to hold their coils in up top. I'm currently using the flat pieces that came with my duff coils. They seem to be working but I don't know if I should be putting all my faith into them. Plus they are designed for use with EB coil buckets, not my Bronco II TTB buckets.

The way the coils compress, I can only secure the coil in one place, which is putting a lot of trust on those metal tabs. Anyone had any failures?

I am using these hook sorta things that came with my Superlift kit. The factory coils are supposed to twist into the bucket, these things keep them from falling out. No problems yet.

I know it looks cheesy as hell but it works 1 7/8 exhaust clamp

exhaust clamp thats funny, but am sure it does really work!

I use some 1/8 flat bar, bend it into a L drill a hole to mount it to the front of it, and drill a hole so i can bolt it from the inside of the coil as well
(stock for an EB) works fine

Looks like it doesn't quite fit into the Bronco 2 coil buckets very well? Ever think of putting buckets from a '78/'89 in there?

I'm thinking of take the clamps off the top of mine, and welding a piece of pipe coming down the center of the spring.. allowing the coil to drop away from the top, but the pipe will still guide it back into it's place during compression. Thoughts?

Nobody, what are those shock mounts you have mounted from? Look very long!

I'm eventually going to swap to EB buckets, but it's low on the priority list. I'll probably switch to 5.5" coils and move the axle forward a few inches when I do it.

My shock mounts are home brew. Just some 3" channel with a few inches capped off at one end, then I used the hardware that came with the 9012's.

The only reason I made my own is Ford was out of stock on the f-250 mounts, and I needed something asap. The f-250 mounts are hard to beat though $12 a piece.

I've seen guys weld a tube to the bucket as a guide for the coil, but I don't think it's a good idea. Awhile back there was a pretty big thread about this, and I think the genral consensus was unrestrained droop was bad.

I don't like how the exhaust clamp goes between the coil wraps. I guess I could move it though to where my current retainer is.

Got a picture of a EB coil bucket up close?

F250 shock mounts at $12 apiece? Where's that at? Ford parts? I usually have to carry a jar of KY when shopping there..

I have seen this done and it works pretty well. Biggest issue is to make sure your limiting straps are 1-2" shorter so the coil doesnt drop below the end of the pipe. Also, a lot of times the pipe will end up between some of the coils and then "pop" back into place. Makes a horrible sound

Here is an 150 coil bucket, should be damn close to an EB one. Note this is on an s-10 so the bottom ~5" with the lip have been cut off.

Look how my coils compress....completely flat. I don't think it would be good to have a u-bolt wedged between the coils. But is doesn't really matter because I could move to the point on the EB coil where it wouldn't get pinched.

After looking at the photo emsoffroad posted, I think I'm going to modify my buckets a bit so I can secure the inside of the retainer like stock EB applications.

yup EB and fullsize are the same like emsoffroad pic, where the coil goes inside the bucket there is a bolt there coming down of the top of the bucket

Or.......if you want to do it the easy way, go down to the Ford Dealer, and get a pair of 93 E350 upper coil retainers....they are like a buck a piece, and they work great........ I have a part number someplace, but can't find it right now:(

How do they work?

They work great, I haven't pulled out a coil yet, so that is a plus... They're just a flat hook that sticks in far enough to get the top coil wrap. and not interfere with anything else. Still can't find the part #....sorry...but the application was a 93 E350, and I think they were the same for a bunch of other stuff.....

I stopped by the dealer today to see if they were any different/better than the retainers from my 89 Bronco, they're identical. I'm going to have to do the 1/8" flat bend and bolt at both ends I think. I had one of the stock retainers straighten out on me and let the coil go, fortunately I was in a place where I could just back up and get the coil back in, took the retainer off and hammered it back into shape. No damage, luckily.

Oh, and yeah, I need limit straps on there.
