The other night I was driving my jeep cj-5 (78) and it started cutting out on me like it wasnt getting gas or spark.

I let it sit awhile thinking I flooded it and it would turn over to no avail.

Finally it started without me doing anything to fix it, but after driving it a lil bit it started to cut out on me again.

I checked the fuel filter and gas is definitely flowing thru it easily. I checked the fuel pump by pressing on the gas while looking in the carb and it squirts like mad!

So I narrowed it down to the coil (which was stock). I bought an Accel Super Stock Coil and put it on and sprayed some Starting fluid in the carb and it started right up. Drove it a couple miles and it died again. Let it sit 15 mins and it started again this time making it 20 miles home!

Then I decided to drive it up the street to see if it was going to do it again an whala poof went the 50amp fuse inbetween the MSD Ignition and the Solonoid.

Does anyone have any ideas that might help me.

The only thing I am thinking of checking is my radio ACC Power cable sparked the other night and maybe its touching metal and blowing the fuse. But that doesnt explain why the thing keeps cutting out when I drive it (which I havent done enough because of the fuse problem to see if it is still cutting out after changing the coil)

I am thinking it is either 1) the radio ACC power wire touching metal and blowing the fuse 2) the new coil is overloading the fuse 3) the Altenator (MEAN GREEN) is the culprit which blew the original coil first and is now just blowing fuses. 3) The MSD Ignition is bad 4) the Solonoid is bad.

ALL THE PARTS ARE BRAND SPANKING NEW. PLEASE HELP!

Pete

First off you can't check you fuel pump, by pushing down the gas and seeing it spray out in the carb. But anyways you might be getting vapor lock. That is when the fuel is getting to hot inside the fuel line, and turning from a liquid to a gas. Check and see if the you fuel line is close to your exhaust pipe.

I got it running again, the new coil and a new solonoid fuse did the trick. I think I accidently blew the fuse with my always hot radio power wire, which just happened during all this coincidentally.

But... It used to start right up and purr like a kitten and now it takes 3 or 4 cranks so Im thinking there is something wrong with the carb. settings...

Ill drive it a few more days to see what it does and keep you posted.
