: CJ Steering shaft question

Are there other steering shafts that will fit a CJ? Since they have GM columns and Saginaw boxes, it seems like there should be other options to connect the two besides the $100+ stock shafts and the $200+ flaming river shafts.

Thanks

Do you need the whole shaft? Borgeson universal makes shafts,or they just sell the U- joint ends for replacement instead of buying a whole new shaft.

What do you need?

There is just a little bit of slop in the top ujoint, but it really didn't look replaceable.

Yeah if it's the stock one it's welded on, you'll have to grind that one off and then you can buy a replacment from Borgeson and they just slide over the shaft and tighten down with a allen bolt. Check out their web site, I have one of their shafts that was given to me they are very nice. And just changing they joint is a lot cheaper than buying a whole new shaft.

I'll check into that. Cutting off that joint crossed my mind, I was just a little leery of doing that and then not being able to find a replacement. Thanks for the advice.

You'll probably not want to cut the shaft right at the weld, but rather grind the welds off and slide the old knuckle off. That way the shaft doesn't end up being too short. Unless your shaft slides in and out (most stock ones don't)
