Hello all, I just got my 99 Discovery II and was wondering where would be a good place to buy replacment parts. I dont want to buy parts from the dealer because they are too expensive. Can anyone recommend a reliable and inexpensive place to buy Land Rover parts?
Thansk for all the help,
Rich

The two I use ,when I'm in a hurry:
http://www.britishpacific.com/
http://www.xks.com/jumpLR.aspx

I get parts from XK the next day!!!

If you want the parts, Rovers North has them in stock. Might be more expensive, but they almost always have them. Whether you need OEM or aftermarket, they have the parts. I place orders nearly daily.

British Pacific is good, but be careful with XKs as they seem to have great difficulty with estimating shipping costs, and their customer service sucks.

DAP is another one that will treat you right. Atlantic British has a New York attitude.

Overseas, there are so many, it's hard to even begin. I've had good luck with LR supermarket, 4x4master.com, and allmakes.

If you want used parts, either Pendy (Frontier Rovers) or I can help you out.

Never had a problem and there prices ROCK!

I needed PBP101150 and PBP101160. Engine oil cooler lines.
Atlantic British :$71.25 and $55.25
Northeast rover parts wanted 133.99 for the set.
XK $38.34 and $33.49.

NOT BAD savings IMO! :flipoff2:

XK was the *only* place that had an AC line for my 93 lwb. RN, AB, DAP, etc didn't have it and could only try and get one on their next container. Price was good, too.

Is Mohammad in Florida still around?

I bought a $95 water pump from XKs. I was quoted a shipping price of $20. When it arrived, the shipping was $48.42. When I called to comment, my questions were met with derision, and the sales rep was defensive and combative. I have written two letters to them about this with no response.

There are very few folks on this board who spend as much on parts as I do. To put it lightly, I was very surprised they refused to recognize this issue as I had every expectation of continuing to do business with them.

IMO, this sort of activity borders on far less than ethical. I am not treated this way by Rovers North from whom I buy thousands of dollars worth of parts each month.

Caveat Emptor.

Nathan, or Rovers North. I tried to use tide water rovers in NC but they sent me an O2 sensor when I needed a VSS.

Speaking of which, Paul, you have any speed sensors for a '96 Disco?

Paul.
I guestimated the freight remember?? I am on commission and on numerous occasions I spent my time quoting you on parts and wasting my time chit chatting with you only for you to come back and hardly buy anything? I(we) don't need customers like you and your letters will not be answered! as far as your history with XK's goes HMMM!! a couple of orders in 2003 and a couple in 2005 "you are a big spender"!!!! as mentioned in previous e-mails that you probably have ignored because you still have not gotten over this yet! I am not aware of any auto mail order company that can quote you an accurate freight total on the phone whilst ordering your parts without the salesman boxing it up and weighing it for you and then calling you back!

get over it! even Pendy has bought from me and Keith Armstrong, Jeff Briggs all avid Pirate "posters" and as far as I know there have been no complaints.

please anybody feel free to call me I would be happy to serve you!!

Thanks Nathan.

I checked the site out from Old Scouts thread and it looked pretty good. But with that response I guess I'll delete it from my favorites list.

For $48 you could ship a 3 lb water pump to Brazil and back.

There is the PBB drama I love. So PT is a pricing whore? I may charge him extra shipping myself next time for the phone sex.

This is the reason I buy from BP. They never hesitate to sit on the phone and answer my questions. I have had several long conversations with Steve the owner about various Series rover questions over the years, and many times he has directed me to other vendors who he thought could help me better. There sales folks may be on commision, if they are I would never know it. On several occasions when I did not know exactly what part I needed they sent out several parts and just told me to send the parts i did not need back when I had the time. Sure shipping has gone up and there prices may not be the best all the time but for the CUSTOMER SERVICE I will continue to support them.

Agreed, I'm willing to give more cash to good folks who are there to help me out. As far as where to buy parts i like D.A.P as well as rover connection.

Thats what I was thinking. I may not always know exactly what it is I am looking for and love the fact that both BP and RN will take the time to ensure that I am getting what I need. The post from XK pretty much read to me as "We don't want to take the time to make sure you get what you need" and "We have no clue about shipping".
Never dealt with them before and probably never will in the future after reading that.

I had one experiance before where I tried a US based Rover parts place (Not XK) in an attempt to save $$ versus going to BP or RN and I got severely burnt. Same situation, was quoted 40$ shipping and got billed $120. :mad3: If you don't know, then say so, find out cost, and then get back in touch with the actual $$ amount.

First I need to say that I designed, built and mostly maintain the British Pacific web site, so yes I do have some financial interest here.

That said ...

The primary reason that British Pacific does not have a shopping cart in their web site for real time online sales is that they try hard to have the lowest shipping price among the US based Land Rover parts retailers. They insist upon packing the box with your order and getting the real shipping weight to obtain the actual shipping cost to your zip code. When you contact them and ask for a price that includes shipping they will pull the parts, pop them into a box, weigh the box and calculate actual shipping prior to getting back to you with an answer unless you ask for a shipping guesstimate or just trust them to charge you the lowest price possible for the shipping service you specify.

Shopping cart software needs a shipping weight for an item. What gets entered into the database is for the item being shipped by itself and usually includes a slight fudge factor because one price needs to fit all orders. It is the shipping price entered into the database that gets charged, not what the sales person tells you. When you get quoted a shipping cost real time over the phone the sales guy is looking at the number that it in the database for that item. He may make a mistake or it many not include additional charges the dabase might add. The shipping price you end up paying from such a system is what the software kicks out after adding the prices for shipping each item in your order. There is no way to end up with an acurate shipping cost this way and shipping charges become a minor profit centre.

Some software packages are better than others at estimating shipping costs but the bottom line is that with an automated purchase system you will always pay a higher shipping cost than with a hands on system where the parts are pulled, packaged, weighed ready to ship, then the actual shipping weight is run through the carrier's cost software.

Never assume that a shiping price quoted real time over the phone will be accurate. Especially if you are ordering multiple items at one time. :shaking:

Along with all the others who have followed this thread, I wish it would end and go away.

I find it very curious that some vendors can quote a price for shipping and that price is honored whereas others (one in particular) does not. Rovers North, Atlantic British and DAP (and even Frontier Rovers/Pendy Imports. even when his shipping contractor fawks up and results in his incuring additional costs which he graciously ate) are all capable of quoting a shipping price and honoring it. I would much rather be quoted a higher price and then be pleased to find that price to have been exaggerated over the phone and the actual price being lower. Shopgrrl refers to this as underpromising and overperforming.

As a trade customer, I expect accuracy as I am using my cost to base my resale cost. When this cost is poorly quoted, I look very bad having to explain to my client that their purchase price will be much more than quoted due to the failure of my vendor to provide a more accurate cost. There is very little difference in the shipping cost not being what was quoted and the purchase price being other than quoted. Both purchase price and shipping cost are included in my price and as such, they will both figure into my resale price.

The inaccuracies of the vendor's software (a poor excuse in the new millenium) does not excuse poor customer service, personal attacks, derision, and childish name calling of a customer (I have only recounted factual information and not resorted to personal attacks). Would you return to a vendor who treated you with less than respect when the error was clearly in their favor and to the detriment of the customer?

Lastly, I did not speak poorly of British Pacific as I have not had any negative experiences with them.
