: any reason to keep ambulance doors?
Polarweasel 03-13-2002, 04:28 PM No, this isn't a "stealth" advertisement -- that's at the bottom in my sig. :D
I have a 76 FJ40 with a soft-top. The PO gave me the ambulance doors and front doors to go with it, even though he had crunched the rest of the hard-top. I think my body is probably too warped to put another hard-top on, so I'll stick with the soft-top or no top.
Thus, my question: is there any reason to keep my ambulance doors? They're in pretty good shape, with all the hardware, and my wife's bugging me to clear out that part of the garage. I want to make sure I'm not doing something I'll regret later before I put 'em up for sale.
I'm going to cut the hard doors down into half-doors one of these days, so I'm keeping them, but chopping up the amby doors to make a tailgate seems like a lousy idea...
swamppig 03-13-2002, 04:53 PM well if you do sell it i could possibly want it if anyone can help me. It has been my dream for some time to make my Fj55 have ambulance doors like that cool japenese one in the 50th aniversary cruiser book. Anyone ever done this? I think it would be bad ass!! what are the measurements of to doors? .

Polarweasel 03-13-2002, 05:11 PM Dude, that might could be very SWEET! If you weren't so far away, I'd volunteer to help.
I dunno what they measure. I'll look tonight (might even take a picture if you're lucky :D) and post back...
swamppig 03-13-2002, 05:19 PM ooo ooo oo, i await measurements with great glee... i thought about it for a few more minutes and i think that I WILL PUT AMBULANCE DOORS IN MY FJ55!! now all i need are doors, a welder time and money... hmm doors i can eventually get and welder i can mooch time i have way to much of... lacking only one major thing.... once you get pics and or size specs i will try to figure somthing out.

FIXXXXAH 03-13-2002, 06:03 PM that would be bad ass to see ambulance doors ona 55. i love those doors, i might put some on mine someday, if i can find some. Matt:skull:
Polarweasel 03-13-2002, 10:08 PM The doors are each 20.5" wide and 40.5" high.
I spent some quality time in the garage tonight with the camera and tape measure, and I've got pictures of my doors up on my site now. They aren't perfect, but they're definitely solid doors. There's some cancer on the lower edge of the passenger-side door, especially the outside corner, but I think it's easily patchable. The driver-side is totally solid, but has a dent from the tire carrier. Mechanically they are excellent. Click here for pictures. (http://homepage.mac.com/polarweasel/for-sale/ambulance-doors/)
(The upload to the server is taking for bloody ever, but it should be done in a few minutes...)
those things look sick. it'd look so bitchen to put 'em on a 55....
btw, it could be just me, but the site is kinda weird on the load....
shows a bunch of red x's till i click to enlarge on the frames...

Polarweasel 03-14-2002, 04:19 PM Weird. I just loaded it up here at work, and everything looks fine. You're saying the images in the left-side frame (the thumbnails) don't load? What browser and OS are you running?
IE and 2k Pro... It's cool, i'm sure my comp was bein a bit :rainbow:
at the time...

60seriesguy 03-14-2002, 05:26 PM Not to be the "parade rainer", but I don't see how you could adapt FJ40 ambulance doors into an FJ55 without some *serious* bodywork, I don't think the dimensions are right at all.
Best thing to do is find an Australian dismantler that can source a set of OEM ambulance doors (not going to be easy, but possible, I know of two sets of them in the US that were sourced like this) and then install them on your own pig.
Here's a shot of the stock 55 ambulance doors.
BJ On Roids 03-14-2002, 07:08 PM i was thinking factory ambulance doors and have seen them
dunno where but...ill keep my eyes open, i think there is one with ambulance doors living down the street from me....
Polarweasel 03-14-2002, 08:36 PM Thanks for the pic, Henry! Those stock doors are pretty sweet. While you're at it with the Australian dismantler, those sliding rear windows look like a cool item, too!
As for me, now I know my 40 doors are useless. :p I've decided I'm never likely to have a hard-top on my rig, so I'll stick 'em up on the for sale board and see if anybody wants 'em.
Polarweasel 03-14-2002, 09:54 PM If anybody needs a set of ambulance doors, seats, or a roll bar, I've got them.
Click here (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39910) to see the ad, or look at my sig to buy a (lower price!) full-floating Dana 70 rear.

swamppig 03-15-2002, 10:39 AM im looking into it some more later. My idea is for a slightly setback set of doors, that way i dont have to followd the curve of the rear end as much. If that doesnt work i was thinking of making the gate a side opening one though. Remve bottom hinge, put on right side, reroute window motor wires, frame the window and seal so wont get bashed when its closed and set a up a latch from a donor door. i REALLY get frusterated with the gate, just not my thing. that is my only complaint about 55's that reason i dont just get a 40.

Appease the wife and sell them, Your Ambulance doors have to be worth an easy $300+ if you put them up for bid, yes the rust is minimal, if perfect they would bring up to $500 or more!

Jason M 03-15-2002, 02:39 PM Be carefull on the value.
It really depends on where you are located.
I have a set of rear dorrs that have very minimal rust on them and would be suprised to get $200 out of them.
but then around here you can get a complete rust free top with all the doors for around $500. And better deals than that can be found..
Polarweasel 03-15-2002, 02:56 PM I have no idea of the value. I've got them up at $250 right now. If that's outrageously high for the Denver area, I hope someone who wants them will call me on it.
If it's outrageously low, I hope someone will buy 'em quick and never tell me they cheated me. I just want 'em gone, since they are a constant reminder that my tub is too crappy to put a top on! :(
