: Stupid Question
FIXXXXAH 03-13-2002, 07:15 PM I know it has been asked before, i kow I have asked before, but i also know, no matter what people say, the search engine on this site SUCKS. what i need to know is after SOA when i put my front driveshaft out back, i need to get a late model mini IFS front CV driveshaft to put up front right? just want to make sure before i pull one and pay for it. anyone know the year they satarted using the right shaft? i TRIED searching for it for half an hour and it refuses to find the thread im looking for. sorry, Matt:(
MetalMender 03-13-2002, 07:41 PM Sorry I can't help you out with the mini cv shaft but I just used my stock drivshaft ends and made up a long travel shaft and it works great.
I pointed the pinion at the tcase and set my caster at 4*, I know they say if you do that you need a cv but I have been running this way for the past 4 years and so far so good .

Pin Head 03-13-2002, 07:56 PM Try searching for Jesse at High Angle Drive line.

DCruiser138 03-13-2002, 08:35 PM i didnt use a cv. just soa with s/r. works fine but i did flip my springs to get 3" so it helped. but no cv, just long travel.
Jason M 03-14-2002, 07:43 AM You only really need the front CV if you are planning on running in 4WD at high speeds. Other than that just have your rear DS lengthened.. Unless you are doing a SR, then you need a long spline DS.
My rear diff is pointing right at the tranny. And I do not have a Cv on it either. However I do not know the difference. By the time you have big ol swampers that will not balance properly you will never see the difference...

Sounds like you need to give Equal, Counteract, or the like a try! For that matter, I've heard golf balls work well, too. There was a thread (in general 4x4, I think) about exactly that.

What about "Sweet 'N Low", ya know, the stuff in the little pink packets ;)

Yeah, have you seen what happens when Equal gets wet? Or how much loss you actually get when you air up and down all of the time?
There have been a bunch of threads about large swamper balancing in the general board. Equal, BB's, Golf balls, tire patches, etc. None of them give a perfect ride. All have some sort of side effects. Plus when you add beadlocks it only gets harder to blance them..
Personally I have no problem wiht my unblanced 38.5x14.50 swampers on 15x10 steel TR beadlocks. at highway speeds. Mostly because I never see highway speeds. That is why I have a tow rig. :D
Now back to the thread.
IMHO Don't worry about the front DS and a CV joint. Just lengthen your rear to fit.. Unless you did a Shackle reversal. Then you will probably need a long travel DS,,
:)
FIXXXXAH 03-15-2002, 07:21 PM Man, i JUST decided to do the SR, i dont want to have to pay $ for a long slip driveshaft. FAWK! jess! hook me up! :D :D :D maybe i'll win the free one next month....:D

---wait, are you thinkin you wont have to get a long slip withg s/r? if you s/r then you HAVE to. because now when you droop, it pulls the d-line out instead of just angling the pumkin up. because it swings the diff way now.
--- or are you just saying that your doin s/r...but still hate the thought of hawkin that 250 out the door anyhow? cause i feel that pain. i had no front d-line for like a month and a half savin up my measly checks.:rasta:
KrustyKruiser 03-16-2002, 10:01 AM He fellas - make a square tube (receiver hitch material) D shaft - all the slip you need!
FIXXXXAH 03-16-2002, 03:44 PM No, im saying i want to do the SR just i dont want to have to pay for a long slip:(

I'm assuming that's a trailer-queen-only idea, right? Got any pictures or articles to link for us?

As for articles - it's been discussed on this board so many times it's just not funny. Every once in a while someone "discovers" this neato solution and raves about it - only to be greated with yawns.
I am suprised there is not an article on IH8MUD.COM (hmmm... maybe there is?). Will try and find a link fot y'all.
KrustyKruiser 03-16-2002, 05:30 PM OK do a search on "how to build square driveshaft"
Good pics in the thread
Polarweasel 03-16-2002, 06:00 PM Thanks! That's a pretty neat idea. I'm new to the board, so I hadn't seen them before. I would consider using one in my FJ40 one day.
Here's the thread for the search-impaired among us. :flipoff2: Click here. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2994)

Easy: click the "http://" button, type your link text (like "click here" or whatever) in the dialog box, hit enter, then type the URL in the next dialog box. Hit enter, and you're done.
The other way is to paste the actual URL into your message. As long as the "Automatically parse URLs" box is checked, it will be clickable when you post the message. Either way...

Ah, I see, said the blind man. I will practice in the Test Section first. Dont want a cyber faux pas, do I.
FIXXXXAH 03-17-2002, 12:33 AM The search engine sucks on here, im telling you....

Matt:flipoff2: Yup, it did take me two tries before it came up - kinda have to know how people might phrase things/what terminology to use. Not everything can be as good as Google.
