I thought I had my problem with my 700r4 solved. It was not shifting into 4th. But after running it the other day and putting the rpms + mph + tire size + gearing through a gearing calculator, the answer proved I was not in 4th at 60 mph but in 3rd (2.3krpm at 60mph with 35" tires and stock gearing w 3spd TC). I have fiddled around with ATV cable trying to get it to shift in 4th to no avail. I am beginning to think that my gas pedal on the 55 is just not designed properly to produce enough pull on the TV cable to get it to kick into 4th? I took the stock pedal that had mechanical linkage, not a cable, and strightened it out so it lay flat against the fire wall, see pic below. The other two pics show the throttle position at idle and fully depressed gas pedal. If anyone can tell if the throttel position looks about right or is not opening up enough, I would greatly appreciate it. I am at my wits end trying to get this tranny to shift properly.

Yep, it is. I have that link and about half dozen other ones some with animated valves and diagrams.
Here is my favorite (http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php)
I know how it works, and why it does, but getting mine to actually do it is another story.
The TBI engine I have came with the bracket that holds the throttel cable, cruise control cable and the TV cable. I know the TBi throttle and bracket are in the proper relationship because they came just as they were on the donor truck. The only differnce is the new throttle cable I added. The proper adjustment is to push the cable button in; Retract the tv cable until it is flush with housing; then turn the throttle to the wide open position, which pulls the TV cable rachet out, supposidly to the proper position. That is suppose to be the only adjustment necessary to orient the TV cable. Well all that happens on my setup, but when driving it, it just doesn't happen.

same problem here.. turns out I'm just not going fast enough.. it goes into 4th in low range.. I'm just on the throttle too much in the high side to let it engage.. (4.11/38's)
So... try it in low, see if it works?

What i was suggesting is that he might not be going fast enough for it to shift into 4th, or that even though he's going fast enough, the "incredible aerodynamics" of the FJ & tires is making him lean into the throttle too much, and it's staying in third longer...
I'm just not geared right.

Mine shifted into 4th around 50 with light throttle. At the time I did not have the TV hooked and had 35s. Could go with a manual valve body and not worry about all this hokie pokie. :flipoff2:
