View Full Version : Bought my first truck!
Hey guys, my name is Gabe and I'm in San Jose, CA. I just bought an 1989 4runner about a week ago. Great condition, 3.0 V6, almost completely stock with all it's work having been done at the dealership. 200k I'm a mustang guy and have never owned a truck of my own, and am excited to get into the truck world. 4runners have always appealed to me and this should be fun. I don't have the origional manual and am trying to figure a few things out like stock specs - hp, tq numbers, and other little facts - and also how to do certain things like remove the hard top, and operating the 4wd (I've never done it before on any truck). Anyways, if anyone knows some good links or sites to check out for basic information to get aquainted, links would be much appreciated! Here's a pic - I'm calling it "Transformer" cuz of the side graphics lol

thats cute. i remember when the toys at my house used to look like that. whatcha planning to do with the runner? crawl the rocks? race the ricers? play in the mud pit at hollister?
to take the top off, first roll the rear window down, then take the interior trim off around where the top meets the body, then undoe the +/- 16 bolts that hold it down. then lift it off. oh there should be two electric connections on the rear driver side that need to be undone.
on putting it into 4wd, whats the ? put the hubs to lock and shift into 4 hi or 4 low. if you have automatic hubs just shift into 4wd. do all this while stopped and in nuetral.
why am i being so nice today? learn on your own noob, it's not that hard :flipoff:

Gabe, congrats on getting a very clean 4Runner. Welcome to the Toyota 4x4 community!
I highly suggest you stay away from this board until you have some experience with offroading. This is an Extreme Rockcrawling forumn - not the place to ask basic questions, especially something like how to put your truck into 4wd.
I suggest checking out 4x4wire.com, yotatech.com, or a host of other newbie friendly bulleton boards. PBB is a great place to read and get a lot of info, but those other boards will be better for asking questions.
Clean 4Runner... have fun with it!
