Well I bought the ball joint spanner socket, and got one of the spanner nuts off. Now what? I can't seem to beat the outer knuckle off?? Bigger hammer maybe?? Im not reusing the old knuckles so no problems there. BTW, what is the easiest way to get them off without beating on them? I have to pull a set of flat tops, and don't want to ruin them. Oh, and trying the second spanner nut the teeth on the tool broke off.

uuhhhhh yeah..... the busted socket is for adjusting the bj sleeve only.
when you have both of the bj nuts off either hit the arm and bj[if not ging to reuse] till it falls off, use a heavy hammer/3 lbs sledge. 2 get in there with a pickle fork and seperate it that way.

Thanks, Ill try a bigger hammer and a pickle fork.
As for the socket, I was using it to remove the passanger side spanner nut and the teeth let go. :mad3:

You should not use the socket till you get the ball joints loose. It broke cause the ball joint is still pressed tight in the sleeve..

Get a can of PB BLASTER and spray the snot out of it........
Get a 3lb sledge hammer........
Take many beer breaks......
If you want to save the knuckle (for anyone else who wants to know), get some brass or alluminum and hammer on that instead of the knuckle directly.
It's a bitch of a job!!

You dont hit the knuckle, you hit the inner C, right next to where the ball joint passes through. Its not that tough, and wont hurt the inner C at all

I just removed a set. I used a long bar and put it in the tube and pressed it down on the knuckle for a little extra downforce. Then put the castle nut on the top ball joint. Make sure it is soaked good in liquid wrench or something. Then hit away. It should pop out. The ball joint spanner isn't needed.

Works every time 3 or 4 hits. sometimes a second hammer backing the oposite side of the C at the ball joints helps. The knuckle ussually hits my foot to break the fall.

Yup, just smack the tube fork around the area where the ball joint is located. The shock will loosen the taper and 'spit' the ball joint loose. For really stubborn ones, have one person do the hitting with a large hammer, and have another hold an equally large hammer on the opposite side to deflect the concussion back into the fork. Don't be scared to knock the crap out of it.
