i just purchased a 87 wrangler last week. im new to jeep but not the sport. im just looking for some ideas on transfer case mods axles and anything else.
my plans,
id like to keep it cheap. i can weld a fab anything i will need in the steel areas.
do i keep the same transfer case and find a drivers side 44 or am i better of going to passenger side? what i a good case for the swap and will i need a adapter?
im only going to run 35's so with a spring over and a 2" body lift i should clear just fine. what im worried about is if the stock springs are strong enough. will they bend or break?
thanks for all the help.

I just sold my 88 YJ. I put a 8.8 explorer rear axle after gernading my Dana 35. I had a small block 350 with a turbo 350 trans adapted to the stock 231 transfer case. I still had the stock dana 30 up front. The rear was welded and the front had a loc-right. I ran a 3 inch spring under with a 1 1/2 inch body lift. I ran this combo for about 3 years with no problems other then the rear axle. The most common spring over swap around here is 2 1/2 inch double military rap springs, no body lift and 35's. You will need to build or by a traction bar. As far as the transfer case swap to swap to other side would be a Dana 300. It as usual comes down to how much you want to spend. You will need a slip yoke eliminator with the 231 set up. Just my .02

first dump both the front and rear axles, plan on getting a set of dana 44's, or a 44 front with a 9in rear. no scout axles.
if you do not like the T-case get a altas.
drivers side vers pass side just a side for the drop, both work.
plan on doing it right and sturdy so it will hold up to bashing.

Looks like if you use that axle, you already plan on a transfer case swap..
The best advice I or anyone can give you based on what you have posted so far is:
Keep it simple, or you will be spending $$ better saved for other mods.
Go with the 12 bolt since it already has your 6 lug pattern, if you use the 9", you are buying custom axles for the rear, or changing wheel hubs up front.
