I think I'll just weld up the diffs instead of paying $1000 for front and rear detroits...anyway, I have a lincoln stick welder, what rod is best for this? I have done quite a bit of welding, however, I have never had much luck welding to cast (or whatever it's made out of) material like a carrier. Should I weld the gears together and then the gears to the carrier? Any suggestions on amperage? Fairly high I would assume...also does it need to be heated up with a torch first so it will not crack or be weak?

DONT WELD THE CAST! just the spiders in a dana 60 the carrier is so big you dont need to weld the cast...if you cant weld cast you will proly weaken the thing.
