Picked up a warn diff gaurd for the salisbury and it did not fit. What are you guys running to protect the salisbury diff cover?

Thanks,
James

I thought I remembered that the stock front cover for an F350 is plenty heavy duty and $50 from the dealer . . .

Diff gaurd protection for salisbury

I am looking for someone to test one that I am getting ready to release in a week or so. I will send you an email and maybe we can help each other out

what about the warn cover did not fit? Is there a recent shortage of Dana 60 covers I was not aware of?

Dave do you know Dan Dachel?

Not that I know of... Why?

Any Dana 60 Diff cover should fit a Salisbury. I think the Pendinator put a couple BTF covers on a Salisbury swap Discovery.

The stock diff cover stuck out too far and created a clearance problem with the Warn Dana 60 cover. The holes lined up fine.

Dave,
let me know if you need help testing. I can drive up some day.
Is it just a heavy cover or something more?
If more then a cover will it fit on the front Sals as well?

Is the Warn a cage type protector that goes on over the stock cover?
Or is it a solid cover that replaces the stock cover?

I know one of my sals has a non-rover cover. Just something that got picked up from a pick and pull, off a Dodge I think.
Anyway I can't "see" any difference.

The warn is a bolt on gaurd that goes over the stock cover, just like the QT services one.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to support Dave.

I am also looking for something. Already bashed the stock cover on a tree stump, and pounded it out. I have seen some really nice covers, but Icant justify $300 for a diff cover. Any other inexpensive heavyduty covers available, preferably around $50.

I used a Crane Diff cover. I think it ran about $100-120. I bashed the stamped diff cover on a rock and decided I didn't like the lack of protection. The bolt on and clamp on protectors, I fail to trust.

The Crane cover is thick. Only issue was some minor modification to the brake line bracket where it bolts to the diff using two diff cover bolts. Otherwise the fit, and alignment of bolt holes was perfect. Even came with a caulk tube of right stuff.

(edit: just looked up Crane, and I think I ordered my cover from "Rokmen" in Colorado. Apparently, Drane is (or was in August) moving, and so not producing product.)

Thanks for the offer Pete, I might take you up on it some time.

It is a heavy-duty replacement cover. I feel that a heavy duty replacement cover is leaps and bounds above the QT and warn style as they collect junk in them, stick out further and do not cover everything. I would think it would fit with a front sals but sadly I do not have one to test... Unless someone wants to send me one that I can install in my Disco :D

Friend got these

105$ each, made from .25 and .50 steel

If you have a stock cover for pattern, drill, saw, and can weld it would be soup to build your own.

$300??? The QT Sals diff guards are only $110

Yes but compare the pictures of what you get for your money...

A bolt-on:

And a complete replacement:

Personally I would just save the $$$, buy a D60 diff ring ($30 or so) and weld my own.

I have a rock ring installed. Made by Poison Spyder Customs

www.spydercustoms.com

It is their standard Dana 60 version which retails at $110

Before I added the rock ring my stock rear diff cover was somewhat modified when I lost a discussion with friction. My current cover plate is the front D60 cover off an early '90s Dodge 4X4. It's a lot thicker than the stock Salisbury plate.

Can anyone verify what Dana cover fits a Salisbury rear? I need a basic, cheap cover, nothing bulletproof, the Dana ones are plenty thick.

1. These links show a Dana 707233X which looks correct:

http://completeoffroad.com/i-123392-cover-inspection-d60-thick-ds707233x.html

http://www.justdifferentials.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28_70_195&products_id=207&zenid=cacc4178bea515249eb38703cc3c164d

2. This link shows the same part number, different pic, but it states it's a reverse cut, front of course:

http://www.diffsonly.com/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=537&sort=6a&page=24

Also on that page is Dana part# 42799-2 for the rear. Pic may be wrong as it's the same for both.

So, what works?

Their diff covers are well priced and 3/8" thick. Fully welded in and out and machined flat after welding to ensure a perfect fit.

I'm buying two of these for my Salisbury-Mog hybrids.

To my knowledge either will work, the only difference would be center fill hole or high fill hole. So choose the one you need :D

I've got one on my front Salisbury with a lubelocker gasket. Works just fine.
