You can see, from pics available in my sig, where my rig might appear a little unready for street duty. Truthfully, only things missing are front turn signals and no bumpers. Okay, maybe mudflaps but I'll be damned if I put those on before it becomes a "fixit" issue.
Thought I was going to get my first fixit ticket this morning on the way to work:
As I was taking a right out of my neighborhood, I noticed an FPD patrol car on the other side of the intersection. I almost rolled down my window to do the whole hand signal thing, but though bahh, I'll just try to blend in..:D
The patrol car got behind me at the next intersection, and hit the lights as soon as we started rolling.
First question as she approaches my door, "Good morning. I was just wondering if your rig was under construction? Like, if you are still working on it?"
I confirmed, proudly, that I JUST got it running after lengthy modifications.
she said, "I thought so, I've seen you around... and I thought it looked different"
She continued, "Just a couple things, I wanted to caution you about not having any bumpers. If a Honda Civic rearendend you, it would damage your tires.":D
"And you need to permanently secure your front license plate"
I showed her my front plate is on the dash, she said she saw it, "but it really needs to be permanently positioned on the front of the rig"
She continued, "this is a nice rig, looks like it would be fun to drive."(with a big smile).
I said, "Yeah, it's a blast!"
I also hopped out and informed her that the back "bumper" section of the Jeep is actually the subframe for my rear bumper that I'm in the process of hacking up.
She said, "Oh, okay. That's cool, just try to have it on there in the next week or two.
She concluded by wishing me a good day, even waited for me to cross out of the driveway in front of her before leaving.
She did't say jack about my frontend or no turn signals
How cool was that?! :D
