: "Fix It" Friendly Fremont PD

You can see, from pics available in my sig, where my rig might appear a little unready for street duty. Truthfully, only things missing are front turn signals and no bumpers. Okay, maybe mudflaps but I'll be damned if I put those on before it becomes a "fixit" issue.

Thought I was going to get my first fixit ticket this morning on the way to work:

As I was taking a right out of my neighborhood, I noticed an FPD patrol car on the other side of the intersection. I almost rolled down my window to do the whole hand signal thing, but though bahh, I'll just try to blend in..:D

The patrol car got behind me at the next intersection, and hit the lights as soon as we started rolling.

First question as she approaches my door, "Good morning. I was just wondering if your rig was under construction? Like, if you are still working on it?"
I confirmed, proudly, that I JUST got it running after lengthy modifications.
she said, "I thought so, I've seen you around... and I thought it looked different"
She continued, "Just a couple things, I wanted to caution you about not having any bumpers. If a Honda Civic rearendend you, it would damage your tires.":D
"And you need to permanently secure your front license plate"
I showed her my front plate is on the dash, she said she saw it, "but it really needs to be permanently positioned on the front of the rig"
She continued, "this is a nice rig, looks like it would be fun to drive."(with a big smile).
I said, "Yeah, it's a blast!"
I also hopped out and informed her that the back "bumper" section of the Jeep is actually the subframe for my rear bumper that I'm in the process of hacking up.
She said, "Oh, okay. That's cool, just try to have it on there in the next week or two.

She concluded by wishing me a good day, even waited for me to cross out of the driveway in front of her before leaving.

She did't say jack about my frontend or no turn signals

How cool was that?! :D

Happily married, thank you! :D

But I thought it was very cool of her. I've actually bumped into her, her partner, and another officer at a nearby store a couple times. I remember one of them saying, "Now THAT's a 4x4!" when I rolled up.
Nice to have cool cops in the neighborhood.

I was stoped for not having mirriors in Livermore (whoops),, i was waiting for my fix it ticket, or at least talk about it (i had the mirror that used to be there under my seat) He asks about the mirror i show him it, and say yeah i was going to get around to putting it back on, he said fine, then he said my tags were expired but it was ok because he called them in and i was registed, I am thinking Damn someone stole my tags! i just put them on 2 weeks ago, i tell him that, he says ok, I get out with him to go look at them and there they are 2003 tags, he said, hmm orange, is the new color i guess, i said yeah, been out for 4 months now, not too new, he laughed and spead off, not careing about my mirror (hmm that was 1 month ago, maybe now i shoul put the mirror back on) i think he was a little shocked on that one, it was early in the morning so i guess i will let the cop off :D
(don't turn this into a cop bashing thread)

There are a lot of cool officers out there. Unfortunatly most people only run into or remember the Fix-It- Nazi Cops who would write there own grandma a fix it ticket. The bad ones make a bad name for all the rest. A lot of them love to see a nice 4x4 and might just be pulling you over to get a closer look. :D

Some departments ....how should I say it ... ENCOURAGE :mad3: officers to write more tickets than others.

I was kinda wondering if flaps would be an issue in the area. I see dozens of the bedazzled and chromed urban destroyers lifted sky-high around our area; none with flaps.

Shoot....I had cop give me a escort home when my lights went out on me....said to follow him, it was 35 miles and he drove right behind me with the lights on and everything....when I got home he got out and offered to help me fix the truck! Two cops and they went way out of their way....found out later they're jeeper's.....twas to cool! Didn't have the nerve to tell him that I only had the fixtures and no real wiring to hook it too....

My brother has a clean '71 Chevelle for a daily driver. He constantly get followed by cops and pulled over just so they can check it out. It gets quite annoying. But still kinda cool at the same time.
