Why not go with the only one really called a Sawzall? Milwalkee.
All the rest are just reciprocating saws!:D

I went in to buy a Milwaukee and ended up with a Hitachi instead. All the same features, and 11 amps instead of M's 10. I like the grip better.

Same price.

I've used a lot of sawzalls and I absolutely love my Dewalt 18v. Smoother and easier to control than any Milwalkee I've had. I don't even bother stringing the cord for the Milwalkee anymore unless all the Dewalt batteries are dead(which isn't very often)

i think i will have to go cordless because i don't have a garage.

Milwaukee, dewalt, and Porter cable are all quality products. IMHO.

I bought a 10 amp porter cable Tigersaw with the quick change blade chuck for $100 at Home Depot last month, IMO just as good as the Milwaukee, but a lot less money.

heck i'll never buy another dewalt power tool. i have heard good things about their corless stuff but i don't have any to comment. i have purchased two dewalt products (drill and 4 1/2" angle grinder) and neither lasted a year!!!! they suck!!!! i now buy milwaukee and have not had a problem. i did buy a porter cable tiger saw and i like it too though.

i havent used a cordless zawzall, but I would imagine the dewalt would be pretty good. ive used many dewalt cordless drills and theyre great. for the guy that bought dewalt and thought they sucked, what color were the grips? yellow or black? the all yellow ones are worthless POS. the drills with black rubber handles rock.

i would stick with the milwaukie corded though if it was me. good price and reliability. the dewalt corded quick disconects are awesome though if you have to do a lot of cutting and are going through blades quickly...ie every 5 mins.

I've owned and used commercially an 18V Dewalt cordless, Makita 6 amper, a Milwaukee, a Ryobi, and a Porter cable Tiger with quick change.
If it's a quick, get a 2x6 out of the way cut, I go for the Dewalt cordless. If I'm cutting through roofing material for a while to install AC units, the Porter cable gets pulled out. The quick change blades are so nice, especially when you're cutting through gummy shit like roof tar and plywood that likes to screw up blades quick. Same would go for using a cheap bimetal blade (who hasn't purchased those?) and bending the crap out of it before it even got a chance to heat up and blue. Like when it smacks that enforeseen crossmember and folds in on itself!
If you had to buy one saw, go for the Porter Cable Tiger with quick change. I like Milwaukee stuff, but the Porter cable is better IMO (what's up with the plug-in Milwaukee cord?). The Ryobi is pure crap. Makita is OK for light usage, not heavy duty stuff. Ditto on Craftsman stuff.

cordless tools suck.

get an extention cord!

Some dewalt is identical to Black and decker some is actually good. The sawzall I have from them is the later. check amps and especially the length of the movement.

for $90 at lowes I am happy with the dewalt

Porter Cable they use metal gears in most of there products Dewault(black and decker) mostly uses plastic. Mil is a good machine too!
My suggestion Porter Cable or Milwalkie.. amps and price would make my final choice..

I've got the Milwaukee "Super" Sawzall and it works great. Use a good quality blade of the right type for what you're cutting and it will make short work of just about anything. That being said, I also like my DeWalt and Makita products.

Not a bad saw:
http://www.ubid.com/actn/opn/getpage.asp?AuctionId=6887682

It will sell for ~55.00 and if you miss this one there will be 5 more the next day and the next day after that. U-bid is a clearing house for Re-con goods. I buy a ton of tools and car stereo stuff there. When new stuff shows up it will be high, just wait a few days and the going price will drop! Be very careful on shipping!

BTW it's $140.00 in most stores! It will be about 65.00/70 to your door.

Porter Cable - I usually buy Milwaukee, but the price was right and the amps were higher on the Porter Cable.

Is this the Porter Cable saw that you are talking about?

Home Depot has them for $120

I went with the Milwaukee Super Sawzall.. $100 at ACE at the time.

My only regret - I didn't check to see if it had a trigger lock. It doesn't.

My hands start going numb after a while and it's hard enough to hold the thing, let alone squeeze the trigger at the same time. :D

Milwaukee ROCKS!

There are AT LEAST Four versions of the Milwaukee Sawzall.
Check out the different models listed here (http://www.cornerhardware.com/hardware/Powertools/Saws/Reciprocating_Saws-1010.html)

I like the counter balanced SuperSawzall. Variable speed is a really nice feature as You can adjust maximum blade speed so you don't burn out your blades depending on what you are cutting. Takes two seconds to change a blade.

For cutting thought 3" thick steel, I found it is best to drill a series of holes first, then cut. (I was out of a Acetlyene on a Sunday... what else are you going to do?) :smokin:

Screwed up the quick release blade holder... replacement part was found in town for $8. Back in business.

I parted out a rusty hulk. Didn't have a title or scrap permit (i.e. no dropping off a body and chassis) so I had to CUT EVERY PIECE of metal to no more than 2' x 4' sections (hauled off in the back of my FJ60). Ahem, try using any Sawzall for 12 hours and see how your arms feel. The counter balance shaft helps, but you end up with rubber arms after a day of cutting (other sawzalls I can only use for 30 minutes, then need a break!).

For some occasionaly use stuff, Harbor Freight is fine (i.e. Jack Stands, Tranny Jack). For power stuff that will last... Oh, same for drills. 1" hole saw in metal, they would last about a month. Same 1/2" Milwaukee Drill has been with me for a couple of years. :D

I did finally get smart about cutting metal... bought a Plasma Cutter! Getting tired of chicklen little arms. :D

I have a 11.5A Porter Cable Tiger Saw (the one w/ the orbit action). I got it because Sears screwed up the price and marked it $99. It is a very nice saw. I don't know that I will ever use the orbit action unless I use it for pruning a tree or bush but the 11.5A motor that comes with it kicks A$$!

The only thing I wish it had that it doesn't have is a counter balance (like the Milwaukee high end modles).

I have 3 right now, here's the rundown.
Milwaulkee super sawsall has the counter balancer and longest stroke out there. The longer stroke is easier on blades, and variable speed is a must. this is the best saw for metal work.
Porter cable tiger, an excellent all around saw, the orbitil action is spectacular on wood, best all around saw for metal and wood.
Dewalt 24 volt, makes the 18's look like kids toy. I have used both, no comparison. Long stroke, inch and an eighth, and plenty of power. Only problem is batts don't last long at the pick & pull. I am currently trying to rig up 2 small car batteries for 24 volts for the absolute undeniable ultimate junkyard tool.
I have recently read that milwalukee super now has an orbitil feature, but haven't tried one yet.

What you don't buy blades in a TEN PACK? Hate folding up a damn blade before getting any work out of it.

The plug in cord on the Milwaukee seems odd, until you discover the cord will wear out before the tool will! Ya, hate dealing with bad power cords. :D

I have the Porter Cable Tiger saw $99 at Lowes.Ive used about every saw there is and this one is as good if not better than most. The point I really wanted too make is on blades.Cheap blades will make any saw seem like a peice of sh!t.Milwaukee blades are far superior to any ive used.Buy Milwaukee blades that say the TORCH for metal or the AX for wood.

I have the Milwaukee one above.Works great! The plug in cord is so if you damage it you can just get a replacement from them.Don't need to take apart the tool to fix it.I would like to get a Dewalt cordless though.I have 2 Dewalt 18 volt cordless drills and love them.I use them everyday commercially also have the 4 &1/2 grinder and love it also.Get the quick change for sure though. This is a big timesaver!Blazin
