: Your official source for Bend-Tech software!!!
gssfc 05-04-2009, 06:22 PM How hard is this to use? I can conceptualize in my mind what I want to build, but I am not that good with designing on a computer. I generally have a hard time putting what is on my mind on paper also.
I cannot even stand to use google sketch-up for more than 5 minutes as I find it so complicated. Am I going to feel the same way with this software?
Thanks, Tim

gssfc 05-04-2009, 07:47 PM Yeah I watched the video's but I couldn't figure out what they were doing without audio. I just don't want to waste $300 and not be able to run the thing. I have always been a fly by the seat of my pants guy, but I wanna do this right this time and design first. Plus steel is getting expensive!
on edit: I guess there is audio...I don't know what was up the first time!
I wish he would tell how he was doing things rather than just basically what he was doing.
Pencil and napkin are my cup of tea!

In some computers, you need to turn your volume up a little.

fabcam 12-02-2009, 07:25 AM The simulation function is used to give you a simple animation showing your part moving through a bender. It is available in the Custom Part, Custom 3D Part, XYZ, LRA, and Sketch interfaces. Like any animation, it is a series of pictures (or slides) shown in sequence.
This is a view of the Simulation tab with its default settings:
http://www.2020softwaresolutions.com/images/simulation01.gif
Here is a brief description of what each setting does:
"dir" - sets the direction in which the part will be bent in the simulation.
"style" - sets whether or not the die will rotate as the part is being bent.
"distance per slide" - sets how much of the straight portions of the part moves through the simulation per slide.
"rotation per slide" - sets how much a part rotates per slide (providing there are rotations in your part).
"bend per slide" - sets how much of the bends are shown per slide.
"scale" - sets the size of the animation. The lower the number the larger the animation will appear (1 being the lowest).
The "Run Simulation" button will bring up the simulation viewer as shown below.

redneckryder84 12-24-2009, 12:08 PM what is the difference between the PRO and the SE with the pricing module? I want to order one, just not sure which one yet?
JeepCrawler98 12-25-2009, 06:29 AM What file formats can the import/export module transfer in - can in export 3d geometry? Also - does your Bend-Tech 'Super' SE package include both import/export functionality or just import? I work with Autodesk Inventor so it'd be nice to be able to bring in designs to further develop on.
fabcam 12-25-2009, 07:40 AM what is the difference between the PRO and the SE with the pricing module? I want to order one, just not sure which one yet?
Here is a comparison chart:
http://www.bend-tech.com/comparison_chart.htm
Keep in mind that you can purchase PRO and in the future if you decide you want to upgrade, you pay the price difference.

Import module is both Import and Export.
Import; 3d dxf wire geometry, 3d dwg wire geometry, stp or STEP solid part models of single piece parts.
Export; 3d dxf wire geometry. The 3d dxf wire becomes your 3d sketch line to work from with Inventor.

Take $59.00 off of any of the systems.
SE: $499.00 - $59.00
EZ3D: $149.00 - $59.00
Most upgrade into PRO. $275.00 - $59.00 = $216.00
EZ-3D is single parts only (no assembly).
SE is designed for commercial accounts
PRO is our Assembly entry product and is designed, in part, for the 4x4 community.

You can draw the larger radius of roll benders and Bend-Tech will tell you the stretch and where the bend starts and ends. Bend-Tech SE has some additional functionality for roll benders.

fabcam 08-26-2011, 11:44 AM Time to give this thread a bump.
7Jake 08-31-2011, 11:44 PM just upgraded from 3D to Pro....Wow... I wish I had done it years ago. I'm not sure if there was a change or I was just doing it wrong, but the plug in calibration calculator has dialed in my die to where I can cut a straight piece of tubing with accuracy to an 1/8", bend it and it's perfect. The simplicy of the pickpoints allowed me to design an entire roll cage within 2 hours of loading the program and I finally have a solid grasp of the tristar and Apex measurements. I actually think it's easier to create an assembly than to create a 3D part.
I just came in from my shop about an hour ago after bending up a project for work........ to put is simply... Bend-Tech Pro Kicks Ass....... to anyone not sure if it's worth the small fee, I'd pay twice what they sell it for. (glad I didn't have to though)

I usually use the assembly mode for a single tube because I think it IS easier! Maybe it's because I've used it more, but the part mode just kicks my ass. :D
Now I'm getting my ass kicked figuring out SM, I'm slow on computers so I'm sure it's no fault of the program and simply my dumb ass punching the keys. :D I just gotta make time in the morning to call Cris and he'll walk me through it again, just like he did with BTPro.
Looking forward to dialing in on SM and taking my fab work to a new level again!

unixadm 01-02-2012, 04:08 PM Quick review after I've been using this software for around five weeks.
I bought Bend Tech Pro 5 and the Sheet Metal module around Thanksgiving and I've been using it to exclusively draw my parts for my CNC plasma table since I got it. Coming from Corel Draw X5 and dabbling with AutoCad, it was a bit of a change in routine. However once you get to know the software it really has a lot of nice features that's geared directly towards quickly making parts. I can come into my office knowing I can be cutting within 15 minutes from the time I sit down. It doesn't matter if you come in with a sketch or you're just winging it to make a part, the software works well either way. When you need to make an adjustment the absolute and incremental system works really nice. On top of that I've been using it for bending square tubing and it's working out great for that too. You are getting a LOT of value for the money with this software, no question! I love the SM module and it's what I use the most.
I only have one real gripe (when can everything be 100% perfect, right?) about the SM module and that's the fact it doesn't export layers in a .dxf. To me this was a big oversight because if you're using a sheet metal software to design custom parts, then the end goal is to most likely cut them. For me I usually have multiple layers such as "inside" for inside contours, "outside" for outside contours, "special" for complex cuts where I may want to adjust the IPM of the cut sequence and "scribe" for a plate marker where I want to scribe the metal instead of actually cutting it. Sometimes I may have different variations of the same part so not using a layer can result in a different part with the same dimensions after it's cut. To put this in perspective, let's say I want to create a part with a base flange and two bends. I draw it out but then I may want to add scribe lines to define where the bend starts so that you can line that up on a sheet metal brake instead of having to validate measurements after the cutting is done. I now have to find all of those contours and create layers so specific tools/toolpaths can be defined for each part of the drawing. Since you need to pass the drawing through a CAM software to define your tool paths, using different layers in the .dxf can make it much simpler. Bend Tech SM has layers in it, but they are not exported so you can't make use of them. It simply exports everything as "Layer 1". This adds steps (and potential errors) to a process that could be fine tuned if the software supported this basic functionality. If the part is not complex it's not a really big deal, however if the part is complex it can add a significant amount of time to create layers for a specific job. If you are bending tubing this has no impact what-so-ever, but if you're using the SM module with the goal of cutting parts via CNC then it can. I am just mentioning this because I made the false assumption that since it showed layers in the software they would be exported and that was a bad assumption on my part. A fine tuning of the layer system to keep it more accessible plus exporting layers would make me VERY VERY VERY happy. The only other trouble I've had is a hand full of "overflow" errors which result in BTP crashing. In five weeks I've had around five crashes so it's not excessive.
This was a great investment for me and I plan on using nothing else for my plasma cutting needs for the time being!
fabcam 01-04-2012, 07:18 AM Great to hear it is working great for you.
fabcam 01-04-2012, 07:20 AM Time for me to clear out my PM box. I am having a hard time keeping up with the questions on ordering.

Yes, Bend-Tech SM creates dxf files that can be read into your programming system.
mferrari 03-04-2012, 07:28 PM I've been using the SM add-on for a few weeks now. IMO it is much easier to create parts than using the Torchmate CAD or the PlasmaCam software I've been using. You can export the SM files into Torchmate CAD or PlasmaCam to create the tool paths and cut.
Still trying to figure out the whole bends and slots & tabs but seems like a great software package!
