i tore my 60 down before taking measurements so i was hoping for some help. does anyone know the degree of turn on the knuckles on a stock chev 60.what i mean is thetotal degrees that it will turn lock to lock . im trying to figure out the exact length that i need to build my steering arms.

The lenght of the steering arm is more dependent on the lenth of the pitman arm. I don't know the exact measurment in degrees as there really isn't any decent place to take a reading. I do know that you should set the steering stops to touch just before the axle shaft ears touch.

thanks for the reply though thats not what i needed it for. im doing a hydraulic steering swap so there is no pitman arm.i want to make the arms as short as possible but still use all the available stroke of the ram im using Jim

i know its not what you are asking but hopefully it will help, a d60 requires a 8" ram ,a toy axle requires a 6" ram for full hydro steering
or just lift up your wheels on jack stands turn your wheels to full lock with your hubs locked and adjust the stops to the place just before they bind

I think the 40 degree number is right. That would be 80 degrees lock to lock.

I can't remember where I heard it though, so take it with a grain of salt. For all I know, I might have read it on the back of a cereal box!

That said, it does seem about right.
