: Project rig getting more attention
Rockrat 10-04-2005, 08:13 AM Well I awhile ago I had started a post over showing the start of a new build.. Here is where we left off with the cage.

Since then then a few changes have taken place. Old Camini S/R and stock axles went away. New Toy axles with complete rebuilds front and rear. Locker for the rear and we have designed a new suspension system. We went as far as making our own version of a JJ made molds and poured Urethane.

So Scott...........how long before you start offering this new coil suspension in a kit for the general public????:grinpimp:
Rockrat 10-04-2005, 08:36 AM I would like to say maybe 6 months tops. There are few things left to work out, to make it unversal with different axles and springs. We used swayaway air shocks on this one, so little went into thinking of buckets for springs. Once that is looked into it should move right along.
Awesome news!!!!
I wanna be first in line.:D
As usual it looks like a very stout product as per what we're used to seeing from the Rockrat team.
purevil71 10-04-2005, 09:50 AM sweet work guys....keep us posted!!
:smokin:
I don't see a drool face to use.
Looks sweet, do you have an idea what the kit will come with (options, sounds like you are looking at that) & how much it will run?
Keep up the good work.

I miscalculated compression and the shock mounts had to come off and get longer ones.http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/rockfab/kimerasuspension051.jpg

Yes COMING TO A DEALER NEAR YOU LOL
tanzuki 10-04-2005, 03:20 PM scott, i wanna see the design you're doing with the slip on the bracket, that you mentioned. It sounds interesting. 8^)

Hvy_Chevy 10-04-2005, 05:10 PM thought you said the frame didn't need plating...

When:D
dr_claw 10-04-2005, 05:14 PM what master cylinder is that?
( see a spidertrax tag but.....)
All looks sweet!
Rockrat 10-04-2005, 05:32 PM thought you said the frame didn't need plating...
When we first did the original brackets IT did not need them. After all the heat the frame has seen from grinding and torching the first set off.. I think it needs it now.
Rockrat 10-04-2005, 05:33 PM When:D
Just call
brackets are $140. for the front $200 with the x-over beam

Stock Zuk,, for now if it does not handle the disks I will put what I use on the buggy Ford LTD master works nice.
Battlescar 10-04-2005, 10:54 PM will the kit be available for a sidekick model?:D Im doing toy axles and toy t case on mine as well.

Yes we have a new sidekick in the shop for mockup and we will be looking at swaping the same kit into it, Time frame has not been tagged.
Myanarchy 10-05-2005, 12:03 PM Gonna wait on the kit. Intersted in running air shocks as well:D
Rockrat 10-09-2005, 08:26 AM Rears are done and installed AGAIN.

LIKES2CRAWL 10-09-2005, 01:54 PM Looks good, what dose the WB come out to, and will longer versions be available?
Rockrat 10-09-2005, 05:07 PM I think this one is around 87" but you just have to use a different frame mount and you could stretch it to what ever you wanted to. provided you take care of gas tank clearances
RockRat have you done any more with the cage?
I thought I remembered more pictures.
I am thinking about dumping the targa for a roll bar simalar to this one.
But I want to be able to run the soft top and doors (WA rain).
Rockrat 10-10-2005, 08:23 AM Not yet,we have been putting attention to finishing the suspension. We should be starting back on the cage this week.
Myanarchy 10-10-2005, 11:14 AM Any idea on a ball park for the complete kit:D
moto261 10-10-2005, 06:28 PM sweet shit man
mad props
:massey:
rollerskate 10-10-2005, 07:12 PM Everything looks great Rockrat (as only a machinest could make it), but what
really has me curious are the JJ copies. Are you making changes or
improvements?
jones 10-10-2005, 09:59 PM Why are you going to patent it?:flipoff2:
rollerskate 10-11-2005, 09:00 AM Why are you going to patent it?:flipoff2:
No Wise Guy,my patenting days are over, one experience was enough for me.
If Rockrat wants to keep the details of his JJ "classified" it's OK by me. I'm
kind of surprised nobody else showed interest in why he's building his own
joints. Where are those inquiring minds? :grinpimp:

Well the only reason I made them to begin with is (well) because I can LOL sereuosly though. We have made some changes to ours. #1 Our first ones we did were of a Prehard material so there was no need for heat treat, but it wore bits real fast. so we changed to 8620 and have them hardened to 40 rockwell. Then cadium coated for corrosion resistance. we also made changes in certain thickness so the ball is centered in the body instead of offset to one side. All the Urethane is poored and cured in House. Yes we make urethane products too. A few other small changes were made to get more deflection out of the joint. about another 7 deg so there is roughly 44deg of full motion. in both our 2.5 and 2 joint. We still use a snap ring to hold it all together, like others. I didnt want to have another machine operation for threaded caps.

Seen those ones. Here's another question, for my tracker, I'll be runnin yota axles and 33's 35's MAX. stock mounting points 3 link rear (extended arms) and either a 1 link or ford radius arm style susp in the front.
Large or small RJ's? (RatJoints! :grinpimp: )
