Damian offered up a gift certificate for the Fall IH Rubicon Run (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=337173).

DandC Extreme (http://www.dandcextreme.com) has supported us for at least three years now and we really appreciate it.

I don't know really if it's my place to say, but this year the prize is going to someone who didn't even attend the event...

Some of you may have read recently that local IH guy Jeff H. died in a motorcycle accident. Well Jeff and his son had been working on a Scout project. Mike (Rocktractor on this site) is a close family friend and is going to help see the project through.

Long story short, we talked and decided that the gift cert should go towards a cage for said project rig. Mechanos drove all that way and beat his rig to a pulp and would have been the likely winner otherwise, but thanks to everybody who gave up their chance and thanks again to DandC for helping out with this every year.

It will be a priveledge to wheel with Jeff's son when the rig is done. And Mike, you know you have all the help you need as soon as you need it.

No problem.... I would have made the trip anyhow, gift certificate or not. Ever since I started reading 4x4 rags when I was 16 or so, I've always wanted to build a truck and run the Rubicon with it. This trip was kind of a fulfillment of a childhood dream. I think Jeff's son could use it a LOT more than I could. Mike, if I was closer, I'd gladly help out in the fabbing/wrenching to be done on his Scout. Keep us posted.

I had a feeling this was where it was going and am happy to hear I was correct. I have been looking around for a good donor SII for this project as well since my understanding is the 800 starting point is not much of a starting point. I will keep mike (rocktractor) posted if any good candidates turn up. Also as this project gets going keep in mind I have a small stock pile of SII parts and might have something to help in that department as well. Just tell Mike I will leave what he needs in the back of my PU lol.

You guys are top notch. Jeff was a good friend of mine. I met him in 1990 and learned alot about IH's from him. I moved to Tenn in 1992 and we built alot of trucks over the phone over the last 13 years. I last saw Jeff 6 1/2 years ago when he flew out for my wedding. We went wheeling and did a cut and turn on a front axle. He flew out and I put him to work. Not a better friend out there. I kinda know some of you guys from the stories about Hollister, Rubicon, etc.

Build Lloyd a great Scout and maybe someday I'll be able to come out and run the Rubicon with you guys and Lloyd.

It would be great to start a project thread so that everybody could keep up with the build as it progresses.

I think I might have a scout II, 345, auto. I bought it today it is not running but I was promised that it does run. It has recently been line-x ed and the body is pretty stinkin straight. It has a 4" SUA, and all terrain 33's, w/bushwacker flairs. The only problem I see is that...1) it is a 78 (smog:barf: ) 2) It has a drum brake d30. But, it can go toward the project no charge. Hopefully I can get it running. I have been thinking of how I could contribute. Hopefully this can get things rolling. I try to fire it this week and let you know... I might be able to provide a sprung over D44 housing as well.

D300 Manual Bull Gear - $125
1980 D44 Frt housing - $100

I'll take care of the booster/master cylinder side of things. I actually had to call Mechanos to decipher this thread. It reads really hard guys. As I was reading I got this son lost his father (my prayers are with you), they where building a rig, now needs a rig? Found a runner? Delivering it to? Really confusing.

Perhaps a decent write-up would get other vendors to kick in and get this kid on the road. Meanwhile when your ready for the brakes give me a call.

WOW, quite amazing how many people have stepped up to the plate on this project. I was planning to donate some parts, but have a feeling that by the time the parts needed list is posted everything I have to contribute will be "taken care of" already and I will be sitting on my misc. pile of parts wondering what happened. Again, wow… how awesome it is to see so many people contribute to such a worthy project.

Also, as I read through and see who has donated there is no doubt which venders I will use exclusively should I need anything.

Looks like I will just have to donate time instead of parts so Rubin and/or Mike let me know when you need help and I will make myself available when the wrench-a-thon begins.

Brake booster and master cylinder is shipped via UPS.

Slight chance you can see it tommorow, most likely Monday.

PS. Ignore what the master cylinder looks like. I turned a corvette into a IHC by changing the piston and adding a residual valve. If it ever goes bad just buy a master cylinder for that vehicle and don't try and match that one up as it doesn't exist.

Van, thank you.

also, if anyone has a decent set of 33's we need them. the tires on the rig are all cracked from the sun and loose air.

sat I am going to work on it a little, oil change to see if head gasket is blown. put some gas in the tank instead of the radiator overflow and see what happens.

Take it easy dude:D - That wasn't "the"radiator overflow. It was "a" radiator overflow serving as a temp fuel storage device. You know you like it and want one in your machine.
Seriously, Let me know what's up on the head gasket and I will see what I can do. Keep me in the loop on a work day. I can bring the crew up and do whatever for a few hours.

Can't belive how this thread has taken off! :D

I just won a rope fairlead cover from Damian and I'd rather see it go here.

i have got to say, the D&C cage was by far the easiest cage kit. i never really measured till the end and it all lined up perfect.all the notches were right on the spot. GREAT job.
