: Randy Ellis' Independent Buggy - Update
TNToy 03-15-2002, 09:08 AM Got these from a thread in the General 4x4 Forum... There's 117 pics of competitors rigs from the latest rockrawling event here (http://www.pirate4x4.com/trailreports/rrca_farmington02/thursday/).
Dunno about that frontend... And it looks AWFULLY close to the ground, too.

I have no idea how well this rig will/has done in the comps so far, but I would really like to know.
Azrckcrawler 03-15-2002, 10:00 AM We'll know on Sunday. Dig the wing.
TNToy 03-15-2002, 10:23 AM Yeah, just not the "Tri-Clops" front end. :D
JackA 03-15-2002, 11:47 AM Innovation is great. Time will tell if it works. :D
When I was at the ARCA Farmington event last year, diff clearance didn't seem so important. Climbing crazy rock faces was the name of the game.
tZUKnami 03-15-2002, 11:57 AM Are those flames I see stiched into the seat? Looks kick ass to me. I like the 3 light setup in front. :D
Tan Wheeler No Mo 03-15-2002, 01:43 PM That thing looks sick. Can't wait to see what it does un Snday. Nice and short sould be good in the tight stuff.:D
spencurai 03-15-2002, 03:28 PM in all the competetion i have seen there was really no use for a solid axle. seriously!! it was just off camber manuaverability with steep face climbs. not too much in the way of large boulders one was neccessatated to flex out upon. looks kick ass in the desert haulin over boulders and such!!! and is that a samurai t-case i see in there???............................
Jeremy K 03-15-2002, 07:02 PM Well, it's friday night, and from what I saw of this beast today, it spanked spidertrax's new kick ass buggy, which by the way, landed rubber side up in the first obstacle here in farmington. Whodathunk? Flex on the RED racer was more than acceptable, and stability was amazing. I'm hoping the easter bunny brings me a little red star by my name so I can give everybody the up close and personal of the beast. But ya, so far, so good with the indy garbo.
TNToy 03-15-2002, 08:39 PM If you've got cable, send me all your pics. If not, send me the really good ones. I'll post 'em for ya.
TNToy 03-18-2002, 10:26 AM Look what someone dropped in my mailbox this morning. :D
TNToy 03-18-2002, 10:27 AM :emb:
TNToy 03-18-2002, 10:28 AM This right here explains why I'm trying desperately to swap in dat solid axle. I'm getting sick of the vehicular blancing act.
schuss 03-18-2002, 10:28 AM must....steal....buggy.
It's great that he's really pushing the envelope technically, since as far as I know (I'm pretty much the whole length of the country away from these events) no one else is running independent suspension.
TNToy 03-18-2002, 10:28 AM Last one...
aaronlosey 03-19-2002, 11:38 AM i like the pics, which i can't seem to find right now, of the buggy's broken ifs, where it fell apart.
Patman 03-19-2002, 11:41 AM So what exactly broke in these pics?
TNToy 03-19-2002, 12:37 PM It wasn't in these pics. It was in this one (courtesy of Spenacurai). Lower A-Arm go buh-bye.
spencurai 03-19-2002, 12:37 PM i sent the pic of his broken lower A-arm to yota san it should be posted by him in a while. i cant post because i am a non-paying leech. :) it looks like he broke the lower ball joint on the a-arm and dropped everything on the ground. i still cant find a proper write up on the net anywhere about how he did or if he even finished the event or if he even recovered from the breakage with spare parts. that is why i like to thouroughly thrash my junk to find the weak spots before i go out for the serious long distance stuff!! unless i have plenty of spares!! gotta find those weak spots!!
Patman 03-19-2002, 01:54 PM Anyone know if he used balljoints or uniballs?
Tin Bender 03-19-2002, 09:24 PM UniBall??? I have a freind that is a UniBall, But thats because he got hit with a fast pitch in Highschool baseball.....
Still don't know why you'd use him on a front end though:D:D:flipoff2:
poppycock 03-19-2002, 09:47 PM my buddy got kneed. we call him tripod :D
zukstur 03-21-2002, 05:19 AM I sent you the pics Dr. Evil . the one pic where randy is just about on his side. Well he was on his side and that shot was when he put in Reverse and flipped it back on its wheels.
miniyota 03-23-2002, 10:16 AM that lower A arm is the reason to ditch the independent suspension! that crap always seems to break. maybe he's trying to show the need for a SAS!:flipoff2: :D
atleast he is trying to make it work i guess:confused: :D
