: New chevy SFA
rebelchevy02 10-04-2005, 05:26 PM Well i finally found a way to get pictures onto my computer, now im going to try to post the progress so far. Anyone help me out with posting pics?
So far :
Got rear hangars mounted, and front "spacer blocks" mounted, which will be boxed in. Waiting on DE's front mounts. Got my r/c d44 from a 79 f250 ( .5" axle tube thickness) and chevy flat tops with BTF high steer arm, just need 1" spacer, studs and that junk. Warn premiums, and stock axles for now. Just want to get it in and drive a little see how she goes. Im going to run 56" springs from a 3/4 ton 2wd burb, prob the 2,000# 8 leaf springs, prob remove one leaf. lookin for a np 241 slowly, as the money rolls in and out of my hands lol, then get a driveshaft made.

rebelchevy02 10-04-2005, 05:27 PM This is all just mocked up, whats everyone think? Those are also temporary tires lol. When i did the rear hangars, i put home made dom (3/4 solid, drilled out to 1/2) and welded that between the box, so it wouldnt crush it. The brackets will also be welded once im sure they are a permanent fixture.
Flame away! :D
HickTrucksRus 10-04-2005, 06:25 PM keep the bad ass rally rims please.
rebelchevy02 10-04-2005, 07:56 PM oh yea, i looked long and hard to find a set of 8 lug 16.5 x 10 in those, they are keepers, the tires on those rims are temporary 33's
BigWillieStyle_21 10-04-2005, 08:19 PM Those aren't your drop brackets right????
That square tubing will be screaming to collapse. I guess that is the height you want right??? and you will be making lateral brackets like a ORU kit or some 3" x 3" crossmember with drop tabs or 73-87 fornt brackets re-welded or soemthign along those lines!!!
rebelchevy02 10-04-2005, 08:25 PM The front hangars are not there, the spacer block will be capped to prevent collapsing, and its also 5/16 thick. There will be a cross member between them, and once the hangars are there, there will be gussets.
EDIT : they are also welded, on the back side to that crossmembed, and that will get closed off too
rebelchevy02 10-05-2005, 05:43 AM Anyone see any other problems/have any critiquing? Im all ears, other peoples oppinions for strength cant hurt.... Dont be shy
Shaker 10-05-2005, 05:53 AM Get rid of the lower box 'spacer' and cap off the exsisting frame on top and take some 3/8 plates on each side and build the lift into them NOT the box tubing with flat steel welded on the bottom. What shackles did you use for the rear?
rebelchevy02 10-05-2005, 06:37 AM For now i think they are 5", just stock ones from 88-98? trucks. Ill see how that works and go from there, unless you have a better idea on what would work better?
Did you mean to do something like this with 3/8s plate? Side view. With the Black being the frame, and the red being the 3/8s plate.

Shaker 10-05-2005, 09:59 AM Yes your getting the idea....:D
rebelchevy02 10-05-2005, 06:19 PM Well i was planning on putting that on the outside, and then gusseting the extra wide box to the frame, Would that suite or not?
EDIT: Thinking approximately 4 - 5 gussets per side (inside only obviosly)
(yes i suck at thinking and hit post premature like in AIM)
rebelchevy02 10-08-2005, 06:25 PM Anyone else?
Evan03 10-08-2005, 10:29 PM that thing is going to be huge.
i think id reweld 87 and older front spring hangers to frame. the box tubeing just doesnt look right.
ive got our brackets. could of made them but man they sure are nice and beffey
chambiec1 10-09-2005, 06:23 PM Look's like shit... keep going!!!:flipoff2:
rebelchevy02 10-09-2005, 07:18 PM The sprigns are not supporting it, and it will drop about 4 or 5 inches when the weights on the springs, so it wont be that big, atleast i hope not, i can delete leafs as i need to, I really dont want to have it sit that high... As for the box tube, thats to eliminate shims at the bottom of the spring pack, and there will be plate on each side and gussets, and also the tube will be boxed in. But i appreciate the criticism (sp?) I know people dont seem to like the box spacer, but what would be the difference between that, with plate and gussets on each side, or just plate on the frame for drop brackets?
rebelchevy02 10-09-2005, 07:19 PM Also, i have pre 87 brackets of a parts truck, but i just couldnt see that it would be better to just weld them to the frame, but maybe im just an idiot
Evan03 10-09-2005, 11:04 PM i dont know that it would be better to weld pre 87 hangers to frame.
maybe get these and beef em up and bolt them to the frame oru style
ive got 6" tuff country easy ride or whatever theyre called springs. i took few leaves out to get em down to 4"s or so. now i wana de arch them so there 1-2" lift springs.
its just to tall. i plan to run 37s and about 4"s of max lift. right now im running 35s and 1" of lift and lots of fender trimming. might even try for 38s or 39s depending on what mood im in at the time.
also have you seen the bronco fender flares the flexible ones. im planning to order a setr of these pull the front inner fenders out and cut the fender back pretty close to door and round them off instead of how there kinda boxy. that should gain me enough clearance to were i can make use of the flexy 6" main leaf de arched to little to no lift and big tires.
can i tell i dont like big lifts.
good luck and let us know how shes comeing along
Evan
rebelchevy02 10-10-2005, 05:13 AM The heavy rain here has made it slow, since im outside, i put the weight of the truck on those springs and it dropped down to about 4" over factory ride height, but they are only mock up springs (4 leafs gone) and they are just factory rear 56". So im going to get new ones before i call it done.
rebelchevy02 10-17-2005, 04:16 PM Got a little further, everythings mocked up for now, need hardware, brakes, shock stuff, thats coming soon....

Those "shackles" were just temporary to see if that length would be good, definetly not going to be used at all, like i said, just to see what length. What do y'all think?
rebelchevy02 01-29-2006, 07:04 PM so im just about done in the front, and im looking for advise on nbs fender trimming, anyone got some detailed pictures of doing it? obviosly i cant be the first and ive been searching for a while with no luck on nbs, so anyone help?
EDIT: i would really like to fit 38s-40s on the approx 6 inches of lift i got in the front

This guy will know a lot about it I am sure, he just finished his. I am sure he would be able to help you with any specific question you may have.
rebelchevy02 01-30-2006, 06:58 AM Thanks, lookin more for 99-up (nbs) chevy front fender trimming.
Red Chevy 01-30-2006, 07:55 PM A little late now, but when I did my 93, I moved the axle forward 2 inches, this allowed alittle more lift. From what i have seen, the nbs trucks don't have alot of fender to trim, just not much options with out cutting into the cab abit. If you have a little room on the front hangers, you could redrill some new holes and inch or two ahead for more clearence, the front of the fender will be easy to trim.
