: noob to this site but i need steering help
taintedjay 10-04-2005, 08:43 PM i cant seem to figure out why my steering is so loose
its not a stock steering box
truck is an 84 blazer 18"lift on 39" tires
any help is really appreciated
will post pix soon in the show your truck listing
thanx for the help
trkklr77 10-04-2005, 09:38 PM have you checked the "gear play" in the box. there is a nut and set screw on the top of the steering box, it adjusts the gear mesh of the sector and input shafts.
depending on the "custom" steering setup may have some flaws in it, or worn out joints.
as for posting pics....
1 you cant.
2 please dont.
"custom" means "holy shit you drive that on the street" or "bootyfab"
Shaker 10-05-2005, 06:36 AM Box bolts loose? Any cross member rivets loose? frame cracked behind steering box-known chevy problem? Get the weld frame repair kit foir insurance from frame cracking. did you say 18 inch lift
mudslinger99 10-07-2005, 06:41 AM did you say 18 inch lift
Did you forget your glasses ? :flipoff2:
You need to check the box as mentioned and also jack the truck up and check all your linkages..
panty dropper 10-07-2005, 03:34 PM Wow, 18 inches, thats worse than my junk :flipoff2: I got 16 with 44 inch swampers on a chevy and have a foot and a half from the top of the tire to the fender, your truck must look retarded :D Besides the obvious, I had horrible play in my steering with a shackle lift, they flexed and swayed side to side when I would turn the wheel, those went away. Polyurethane bushings are your friend. Crossover steering is your friend, frame brace are your friend. My truck still has a little play and probably always will from a spring that tall flexing. Unless it drives like an old ford then I would say you are always gonna have a little play on a truck that big. Its something you have to deal with or buy a human sized truck. :shaking:
taintedjay 10-08-2005, 12:09 AM thanx for the info and yes 18" lift :D :flipoff2:
and on the get a human sized truck.....:shaking: a truck aint a truck if ya cant run ove the fools that underestimate the size of a truck that big
Poohbair 10-08-2005, 12:25 AM Your steering probably doesn't feel loose because there is anything wrong... it feels loose because 18" is a fawking rediculously gay amount of lift. If you ever want it to drive decent, remove at least 10" of that lift before you kill someone driving a death trap pile of shit on the road.
mudslinger99 10-08-2005, 06:29 AM Hey Taint, how about pics of your truck ?
trkklr77 10-08-2005, 06:17 PM Hey Taint, how about pics of your truck ?
nonononononononononnoononnnononon pleeeeeeeaaaasssseeeee dont!:flipoff2:
if you really want to, email them to me. so i can chop them up first.
taintedjay 10-09-2005, 09:30 PM sounds like theres some resentment cuz my trucks bigger
and the steering should be fixed soon
trkklr77 10-10-2005, 12:12 AM "cuz" your trucks what. bigger, i dont think that there is a bigger rusted piece of shit than mine but if what to lay claim to that title by all means go ahead
ps still waiting on pics
Davethorik 10-10-2005, 09:12 AM Who else is thinking about the 10 for $10 deal?
(betting myself $10 that he's running f/r 10 bolts with that lift and 39.5s)
nkldrgr 10-10-2005, 12:35 PM I'm in on 10 for $10

Hahahaha.......Its okay, I can laugh, my truck has less lift and it is still taller unless you count the cb antennae that you probably have :flipoff2: And my truck steers better, and mine has a front driveshaft, and 1 ton running gear, and mud on it. Honestly though, that is a shit load of lift. I learned my lesson already, when mine was that tall liftwise, everything was completely screwed. The masters of this website helped me see the ways, I lowered it down a few inches, and everything works better now. I went and bought another 300 dollar beater 3/4 ton chev 4x4, threw some bigger tires on it and no lift and it wheels way better than my "big stupid truck" and it is more fun. Good luck on your quest to cruise the middle school and the mall. the rest of us are going to be busy denting up our shit and getting stuck in the mud and fawking up the bottoms of our junk sliding over rocks bigger than our trucks because its fun :grinpimp:
taintedjay 10-12-2005, 03:29 PM thanks to those who had advice on how to fix the steering turns out the helper shock at the front on the steering bar got bent so it was having to force past it to make the turns fixed now thanks for the help

wtf 18" of lift my as your tire are still in the wheel wells:shaking: what tard told you 18" wtf did you use a metric ruler and not relize that a centimeter is only about a 1/2".
get a drop drag link and it will take care of 90% of your problems, ive also heard the the only way to "tame those huge meats" is with 4 or more chrome stabilizers. the chrome is very important, it allows the ss to cool faster and be more effective. also try 2 or more shocks at each wheel, chrome of coarse.
so whos collecting money on the 10x10 bet? cause thats what its got.
oh holly shit. thank tj hours of end less choppittude shall come from these.

nkldrgr 10-13-2005, 03:49 PM Hey, I was in on the 10 for 10 too, but let not get too carried away. We were all new to this once too. Cut the kid some slack. Teach him a thing or two and then he's on his own.
Ten bolt axles are probably some of the weakest axles the GM used. The 10 bolt does have some good qualities, but they are generally lame. Now, the biggest tire I'd use with 10 bolt axles is maybe 35s, but 33s to be safe. Your running about the heaviest set of tires you can find on some of the lightest axles available. Keep driving, but not near me!!! Search 14 bolt or Dana 60 on this web site and you'll get all the info you need. Next, go to pick n pull and try to find a 14 bolt. When you find the front dana 60 at Pick n Pull, take the whole thing out of the truck and drop it on your head, 'cause its not a dana 60! You'll have to pony up the big bucks to buy on outright. Or...lower it down, put on 35s and maybe, just maybe someone will let you wheel with them and they'll teach you how NOT to break you stuff. Afterall, wheeling is about driving, not obcessing over shit you could have. I'd look through the pics on these pages and see how people are building the rigs. They have probably tried other setups and settled on what they've got for a reason. I know that I tried the big big big lift setup and thats no fun: not to drive, not to wheel, and especially not to fix! Good Luck and remember, try to play nice with others!

How many different "weak" axles did GM use?
The ten bolt isn't a lame axle, it just wasn't designed to jump rock shelves and ledges with 44" swampers strapped to it. Under normal circumstances, a 10 bolt will do fine with 35"s under moderate weekend offroading.
I have successfully run 39"s on a ten bolt and never had a problem.

trkklr77 10-24-2005, 09:39 AM this blazer has 8+3 lift and very balding 39" boggers. its got just as much in the wheel wells, a drop drag link and raised arm and it drove fine.
