Putting a 200Tdi in a Range Rover, I have a few options. If I want to keep the ZF, barring getting a new ZF from a 300tdi, what exactly needs to be changed? Not sure opening up an auto tranny is something I want to do.
If I swap to a manual, does anyone know if the BW transfer case will bolt up? Also, does anyone know if a Disco pedal box with clutch pedal will bolt up or will it interfere with the dash support?

I don't think the BW case will bolt to either the lt77 or r380

I think the 300tdi auto is electronically controlled (to some degree at least)

I'd say your best bet is to get either the assembly whole cos you'll need a manual from a diesel as well, the v8 ones won't do.

the operative words here being "I think"

I have heard the V8 ZF will work fine, but is not ideal. It is however possible to modify the Gasser tranny to work well with the diesle. I think Pendy knows what you need to do.

search m and d engineering in the UK for ideas on this. the bw case will bolt to either manual transmission. 200 tdi are not my forte'

I've been told you need to change the input shaft on the ZF, which requires completely stripping down the transmission. Ugh.

I cannot get the M&D Engineering site to open. Maybe you meant search pirate for M&D. I'll have to try that after work.

I do not believe the 200 ever came paired with an auto trans, but for the record it shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 2.25/2.5L series of engines. Your best bet will be a manual trans, I would go LT77 as there is nothing really wrong with them unlike what others will tell you. A 200tdi and an auto trans, if you can find a way to pair them together, will be working very very hard to move a Range Rover down the road at any decent rate of speed.

Yeah, I've come to that conlusion. Switching to an LT77 is actually relatively straight forward. I was hoping a Disco pedal "box" would fit, as all the clutch pedal fittings are there already, but I've been told it won't. I thought the dash support might foul things up. Not sure if that is the problem or not though.

The combination of 200tdi and zf-autobox was produced by Rover (in the DiscoveryI only though) !
For a short period of about a year or two until the 300tdi came (then in the Range Rover too).
I could drove that transmission in a 300tdi-Defender, and met a guy who made a adapter himself and put a RangeRover autobox into a 200tdi Defender. So anything is possible. Anyway, it drives reasonably well. It needs getting used to the tdi raising the revs and noise and the car only moving after a short delay. It really makes things better to have the tdi tuned when using it with a automatic.

I think mating the autobox to the 300tdi is slightly easier (if you also take the autobox out of a Tdi), but I think the necessary adapter plates are no longer available from Rover. Used parts are rather difficult to get - even with 300tdi parts (which had a higher production rate). Personally I don´t think that this alone justifies to give up and mount a manual transmission.

One problem is that the zf in the V8 Range Rover has a bigger TorqueConverter-housing, therefore it will not fit the 200tdi even with OEM adapter kit (one the other hand the bigger T/C makes it better suited to the torque of the Tdi; Rover seems to have choses a "soft" T/C for emission reasons or whatever with the tdi-autobox (compared to the V8 autobox)).
The shift points are set for a V8 rather than a diesel in a V8-autobox but one can modify it with reasonable effort (of live with that, if you´re tolerant).
MD-Engineering do sell a complete adapter kit to mate the V8-autobox to the tdi; price is around 1000$. Their Adress is listed below.

You're quite right about the kit. IIRC M&D sell a fair few kits to use for crop sprayers (The sell a 2.8 and the V8 autobox conversion then Ashcrofts supply a beefed up V8 autobox).

Tdi autobox stuff is hard to come by although its not impossible. I bought most of the stuff for my conversion new except for the box itself and the engine backplate (it cost a fortune for a new one). The only 200tdi specific bit you need is the engine backplate. They're hard to find but you do occationally come across them.
