Hi all :), im new.
I want to ask you about toyota trucks frames. I have a 4wd truck and my frame is not in good condition, and i have a 2wd that have a frame in very good condition... i want to ask... if the 4wd frame is different of the 2wd one, i think yes but i'm not sure. Probably the 4wd frame have brackets that the 2wd dont have... If the frame is only different by brackets, is it possible to buy the brackets to weld on my 2wd frame?

And another question, but not so important : is it a difference between 22r and 22r-e block? i think the 22r-e block is shorter but im not sure. I read about earlier 22r and re engines, and it say that earlier 22r and r-e engine have less hp than other 22rs. Where is the difference? If i have 2 22r engines with the original valve cover, and they have different valve covers (it have two kinds of valve covers on 22rs), is it exactly the same parts on the engine or it have a few differences?

Thanks

a 4x4 frame is a little different, it kind of differs by year. if you don't mind swapping in a 4wd tranny t-case, a 2wd frame is a great base to build a rig on.

as for the engines, the rule of thumb is that all '81-84 22R and 22R-E long blocks(head to the oil pan) are the same, and all '85-95 22R and 22R-E long blocks are the same. the earlier engines didn't make quite as much power as they had 9:1 compression and open combustion chambers with wierd donut top pistons rather than 9.5:1 compression and a slightly dished piston and a quench style combustion chamber.

the heads are interchangeable only between '81-84 and '85-95, unless you want to do a lot of machine work, but i won't go there. i think you can use an early style valve cover on a late engine, but the late style cover won't work on an early one.

About the frame, what u said exactly?
I want to remove all (engine, transmission, t-case, differential, suspensions, cab....) on the 2 trucks and put my 4wd mechanic and body on the 2wd frame, and if necessary add brackets... is it a good idea or is it too hard to fit brackets?
My trucks are from 86

I know that the 79-83 frames are the same 2wd to 4wd but am unsure of anything later than that. From just looking at them I would say that they are [the same] but without consulting a FSM or a crashsheet it is hard to say. If you do find that the frame rails are in the same location and most of the crossmembers are the same all u have to do is cut off all the a-arm and torsion bar brackets and weld on leaf spring brackets (u could just use a SAS kit). You will also have to use the tranny crossmember from the 4X4 and weld mounts on for that. Sorry that I couldn't provide you with an answer, good luck hunt for one.

Is the 86 4wd 4runner frame is the same that a 86 4wd pickup frame?
