: Full Width Legality in CA???

I am moving to Cali in July and trying to figure out what axles i should bring with me (i have a yard nearby that charges short $$ for them and i am in need of a swap) and build them when i get there
I know mass is VERY anal about tires sticking pass flares and they right insane amounts of tickets for this!
Is the same true in Cali?
What is the law about this?
I was thinking of full width 60's

WideJ 03-15-2002, 01:17 PM I am running full width axles on a YJ, I got tagged on the 101 south by a highway patrol guy that was driving the opposite direction as me. I live in San Luis Obispo, where the rules are pretty strict. I just made some mud flaps out of a "Welcome" mat and got the ticket signed off. I run the mud flaps around town and on the highway just to be safe.
You'll get hassled a little, but I think its worth it... full width is da coolest!

The Rockslut 03-15-2002, 01:39 PM He is north of you by quite a ways. I am WAY north of you. I run full width with no problems so far.(Knock on wood) All depends on the law enforcement in your area. I dont have any problems but I also wheel with 5 local sheriffs :D
Dont worry, full width that thing and love it. If you get busted just hang some flaps and :D

YJ4LIFE 03-15-2002, 02:58 PM You'll get a fix it ticket once and a while without mudflaps but its not a big deal. Some places don't even check out your rig to sign it off. Like up around Valencia north of Los Angeles.

The Chula Vista Mangler....doesn't have the same ring to it. I'm in San Diego and have been running with my wheels sticking beyond the flares by 5". Never been hassled.
Welcome to SD. I think we need to organize a run when you get here. But if you get pulled over by the CHP, we'll deny we told you it would be OK to run wide:D
