finally getting the dormobile out of storage. and its almost time to start tearing it down for a new frame. so what route would you guys go? coil chassi or typical spring chassi with parobolics,
got to get rid of the rover dif, so salsbury seems on the plan, .... keep the chevy six and scotty conversion. or
i can get my hands on a ex military 110 with a junk body, 300 tdi bla bla bla. or.... discos and classic rangies are pretty dam cheep as a whole car, part off what i dont need and make the dormi body fit? then i will have v8 rover!

What do you want to do with it? There are a couple of routes. Keeping it original or try to trick it to be extremely functional. I can tell you right now that coils are gonna be better and more than 4 cylinders is a good idea.

A 110 chassis and running gear is a great idea. This way you can retain the old series look yet have the rover V8, 5 speed transmission, the LT-230, newer axles with disc brakes, etc. You could even throw an automatic in there if you wanted (very nice for wheelin'). Got power steering and could probably tap for A/C. It helps out a lot with function. Forget the TDi. Initial cost and the fact that they aren't plentiful make them VERY expensive. Also, they aren't exactly the screamin' powerplant many peoples make them out to be...

The only other option I think is good is using American stuff for the drivetrain. IMO, the American stuff will be cheaper and probably better. Adapting it to the rover will be a little bit of a challenge. If you were to throw a SBC 383 in there, it would be a lean mean machine.

You're idea of using RRC guts is probably a good idea. Full running gear for like, 1000 bucks.

o.k. then, what would be the best choice to pick up then, a discovery, swb classic, or lwb classic. there are a few discos around town going for 5000 - 6000 and a lwb classic for 6000 ... auto is nice for wheeling, and i want this truck to get me back into the bush, the thick bush ,where the moose call all nite long and the grass is taller than tall...... :smokin:
