Kinda dumb question and I really just can't remember trying to swap em. Anyway can anyone verify this for me. The 44 is a 78 Chevy the 10 bolt is an 82. Later

The d44's had a snap ring groove on the tip that the 10-bolts didn't. My friend just makes his own grooves with a new cutting wheel every tim he needs to replace his stubs. Seems to work fine. Otherwise they're exactly the same.

Kinda funny but my 89 blazer has a 10B with stubs that have the clip groove in it. All the 10B and D44's I have seen have the grooves in them.

Maybe your ten bolt has d44 stubs and you just don't know it. I'm pretty sure that, in stock form, 10-bolts don't have the snap ring groove.

All Dana44 and 10 bolts have the grooves for the clip. The clip is what holds the axle in place so that dirt and water and such doesn't enter from the back side and get into the spindle bearing.

My two 10 bolts (86,87) have the groove, along with my dads 89 burb:smokin:

I guess that there may be noe rhyme or reason to it then because I know that my buddy has had to grind his into the stub with a cutting wheel at least oce while I was there.
