As I ready my XJ for a two week trip, I have a brand new tranny fluid leak that wasn't there before. This is a 97 AW4 with about 50K miles. Leaks like a sieve, especially while it is running. It looks like it is coming out of the front where the bellhousing mates up. Is there a gasket here? Diffiucult too change? Gotta drop the whole tranny?
And, yes I did use the search feature. And no, my AW4 isn't very hardcore.
Thanks in advance.

Just a thought, have you checked the front pump seal/gasket? or the input (torque converter) seal? Does your torque converter have a drain plug? (not too common though) May have to drop the tranny to check for sure, but only after you can see as much as you can from underneath.

I have the TF904 in mine, yours shouldn't be too diferent.
Stop by the Chrysler/Jeep dealership and have them bring up the parts schematic to show you what could be the problem, along with what I mentioned.
good luck:smokin:

Thanks. I should also mention that this problem started right after I ran a long mud bog. I never had so much as a drop leak out before. I am reall not wanting to drop the tranny but I need to, I guess.
