A friend of mine is looking to replace his 4" Trail Master lift with something else for under his TJ with 35's.
He's thinking about going with the RockReady but really can't decide on this or the RE long arm.
I keep trying to lean him toward Rubicon Express but I thought I would ask. I have a YJ.
His rig pulls double duty but when he wheels, he's not afraid to get it.
So tell me what you think, am I on the right track or is he. :D

The only bad thing I've heard about the Rock Ready stuff is that it is very expensive.

Hehehe I dont think theres a good TJ lift that's cheap. I doubt he cares about the jack.

I have put on a couple of sky jacker lifts and more than half of the
bolt holes don't line up with the brackets and frame. None of the
lifts that i put on were the rock ready though. They might put
a little extra care in making the rock ready lifts though:flipoff2:. I would go with the RE.

I have seen several SkyCRAPPER lifts installed.
Yep the bolt holes dont line up right.
Springs are soft and will sag. Which will cause him to need spacers just to level it out.

TELL him to get a RE kit.

I'll have to back up the other guys on installs. Haven't installed SJ yet, but the RE stuff long arm is made correctly. It works killer on my friend Matt's TJ. In fact we had to remove it for Pro rock and the short arm/stockish crap folded up on us and cost us a very likely high placing. Not only that but the TJ wasn't working like we were expecting without it.

The RRs upper arms are attached by raised brackets and are not true long arms, just a tad longer then stock.

You friend can do a custom set-up cheaper then the RR or the RE but if it must be bolt on go with the RE.

i really like the re long arm kit. its cool how they mount links to each other. innovative, even though i'm sure someones done it before. nice build quality, and they work on the trail.

RE all the way and as afore mentioned the sky jacker coils do sag like granny cannons.

I don't know about the Skycrapper kit. The RE kit you're considering must be the 6" to clear 35s.

A friend and I just got done installing a 6" RE long-arm. First off, he was very disappointed with the customer service from RE. THe kit arrived one week later than they said it would be. And when you talk to them on the phone it's like they don't want to be bothered. It's like they don't want to make the sell. They're "too cool for you" kinda attitude. If you can look past that then consider you'll need a welder (to weld the frame spacers in). You'll also need a 3/4" and 1" drill bit, a new muffler, and CV DS. He also had to install a 1"BL and 1"MM lift to get the angle on the rear DS (love those hidden costs). That's what we're doing tomorrow

On the plus side, it is a true 6" lift, good quality crap, the directions were OK, and it does clear 35s
HAven't trail tested it yet

Uh, yeah, ever seen a Ford???

the RE long front arms are very similar in idea to Ford's radius arms.

Right now I am running the teraflex 4" and I want more. I am getting ready to install full width axles and I want to run 38.5 or 39.5 swampers. Some say that the RE 5.5 gives you about the same as the skyjacker 8". Does the RE flex better than the skyjacker or are they about the same in that asspect. The only one that I have seen on here with the skyjacker spings is shilingdog (I think that is who it is) with his custom long arms. If anyone has any info on what they think would be the best let me know. I am talking about just the springs. I have the RE long arm allready.

I run the RE 5.5" springs and a 2" BL and have room for 38.5" SXs, I would go that route.

i installed the skyjacker double flex kit on a zj which is basically the same as a rock ready kit. afterwards the zj handled like shit and sounded like a wooden rollercoaster going down the road, i would never buy one

Thanks beast, I think that is what I am going to do. I was trying to stay away from a BL but then it will just open room to move up the gas tank and upper shock mounts. Thanks agian for the info and the pics on your site.

My roommate just got done doing the RE Long Arm 5.5" kit on his new 2001 TJ. He's got stock bumpers and no winch yet (light) but with the spare in he got a good 7" in the front and 7.5" in the rear, and I'd say the springs are fairly "broken in" at this point. He swears to christ it drives *better* now than it did stock. I've driven it as well, and am very impressed with the kit. SUPER BEEFY everything, the crossmember is thick and well designed, and the links could be used for clubbing elephants. No worries about hitting rocks or honda's.

He'll need a CV rear driveshaft for sure, and it wouldn't hurt to do a 1" motor mount liftt to help with rear DS angle. My roommate is clearing Swamper 36" radials with no problem, tons of room. With a 1" body we could stuff 38s

The skyjacker kit gives about the same lift, but the links are roughly 30% smaller and generally not as beefy.

I'd go RE all the way, do it once do it right. OR custom, if you know a good shop you trust.

I have the RE 6" on my Jeep and I like it a lot. BTW if price is an issue PM me and I can set you up with my club discount dealer and get anyone the BEST RE pricing. Save him a LOT of money.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be showing him this thread after it fizzles out. Keep em comming.
Sounds to me like he NEEDS the RE kit, with the way he wheels.
Keep them coming though.

Here are the details of the supplier to get great pricing on all of the RE stuff:

Send an email to Robert Giroux (ojcenterprises@mail.com) (co-owner of Custom Off-Road Enterprises) and tell him which kit you want exactly and he will price it . Tell him where you are and he can get shipping on the quote. He sells all the RE stuff at great pricing.

If you give your shipping address to, then he can price that too.

HTH,
Phil
