5 bucks says you didn't seat the converter all the way in.

Hmmm, I replaced my 999 about a year and a half ago, but I don't remember any gotchas. Could the lower dust cover be rubbing?

on the 999 u use a a scale to check depth, it supposed to be at 1/2" from the edge of a straight edge..and it was exactly a 1/2". a 999 isnt like a chevy tras where it clicks. all im supposed to do it rotate while pushing on the TC, which i did, and it seated.
i pulled 1/2 of the dust cover off(2 piece design) and it still made the noise. im gonna pull the other half tomorrow and see what happens.
the FSM says that it could be a broken drive plate as well as a couple other things in the diagnostics section of the book. For those with the FSM handy...its section 21-236.
im at wits end with this and am ready to load it up on a trailer and take it to a shop

I had the top bolts on an aw4 come out and the upper cover came down into the flywheel. Not sure if this could happen with yours. Just my .02

Is the engagement fork installed correctly? Nah, anyway,
I had a few issues with some of the bolts on mine, first I forgot to tighten all them down so it was hitting. Not bad cause I did wrench them down, but enought to make a noise, more of a click, but you get what I mean. Just a thought.
