: Flipped rear stock springs-FJ40
Big DW 03-15-2002, 09:31 PM Anyone know the length the driveshaft needs to be when you flip the springs?
Assume the following:
F Engine
SM420
3Spd t-case
SOA
Rear Stock springs flipped to extend wheelbase 3".
So what is the length of the shaft?
Thanks
DCruiser138 03-15-2002, 11:03 PM your gonna hafta get it all in..then measure. i know its a bitch..but ya gotta.
dog walker 03-16-2002, 05:22 PM Hey Dustin, you have the same exact set up as him, be a nice guy and go measure your rear shaft for the cat!!!
Jeff
Big DW 03-16-2002, 05:31 PM Please measure it for me...Or I could bring my tape up to Carmichael and hold one end of the tape while you hold the other...LOL! Seriously, could you measure it for me...did you just extend your rear shaft after you did all of the mods on your Cruiser, or did you buy a new shaft?
Let me know!
Dave
dog walker 03-16-2002, 06:47 PM I will see that he measures it for ya! He had it lengthened after all the mods, (SOA--flipped rear springs---2F,420,3spd case)
Jeff
dog walker 03-16-2002, 06:49 PM Oh wait a second, he does'nt have flipped rear springs, just front, right Dustin???
Jeff
DCruiser138 03-16-2002, 06:53 PM set the pipe down...and walk away slowly...lol!
---na i didnt flip the rear. you silly ol mammoth you! i could theoretically measure it then add 3 inches and give you that! lemme know...:smokin:
---:rasta:
DCruiser138 03-16-2002, 06:57 PM and btw...its just lengthened. not any more slip.
Big DW 03-16-2002, 07:00 PM ....Could you measure it and then I can just add the 3"...if its close it will work for now...not gonna be crawling in it for a while and I can just retube it if I need to after I get the SOA and SM420 in.
Thanks
Dave
HANGTOWNCRUZR 03-17-2002, 08:49 PM I have heard different opinions on this, I just bought some new Pro Comp 35's and now I my rears are rubbing on the fender flares and are pretty close to the body. I have an 67' fj40, SOA? should I trim the flares and body or flip my springs?
coyote 03-18-2002, 06:41 AM Flip the springs...its easy and nets you a longer wheelbase and better departure angles....or you can hack away at it...all a matter of what you want....
HANGTOWNCRUZR 03-18-2002, 08:00 AM I am going to flip the springs, will I need anything other than to have the driveline lengthened? I'm really looking forward to removeing the shackle bolts as I recall they are a bitch to get out.

You will most likely have to move the rear top shock mounts to the other side of the crossmember.
Big DW 03-18-2002, 11:32 AM Yes...you will have to move the rear shock mounts to the rear of the cross member.
GloNDark 03-18-2002, 11:40 AM I have the EXACT same set up.
F motor, SM420, 3 speed case, flipped rear springs. And I used the Stock front shaft as the rear drive shaft. Worked perfect. So if you know the length of that. It saved me from lengthening 2 shafts.
I will measure as soon as I get home tonight and e-mail you the measurement.
Big DW 03-18-2002, 12:25 PM but are you sprung over???? That is the real question. And how long are your rear shackles?

OOPS! Sorry, yeah Sprung over with 5 inch shackles in the rear.
Big DW 03-18-2002, 02:36 PM I don't have my SM420 in yet...that must be the missing link...my front shaft is still too short...I'll have to check it out once I swap out my stock 3spd...my rear shackles are 5 1/4" pin to pin...so it's pretty close to yours...thanks for the info

I know the SM420 is longer than the 3 speed but I can't remember exactly how much longer.
