Has anyone used this kit before, or know someone who has?
I am concerned it won't be very strong.
I understand that it will flex 10" which is close to an SOA conversion.
I like the idea of the smoother ride on and off trail.
Thoughts?

It a piece of shit. I had one on my jeep when I got it. First trip out and I was very disappointed in it. The link geometry is very bad. The kit would never drive strait on the hw. I now am SOA and it drives 1000 times better.

shyt why? You only mention driving straight. Any other reasons? Driving straight theoretically can be fixed, depends on why.
I have read that the kit causes torque bump, turns the direction of the motor torquing. Did you feel this?
Thanks

If you want to go to coils on your YJ, DO NOT GET THE PROCOMP ONE!!!, a friend of mine did and he hated it... I went the Rockkrawler route... and I love it... Im in the process of modifying it tho... 4 inch strech in the front and another 2 inched in the rear on the already 7 inches, Im hopeing this summer i can trade the 10 inch coils for 16 or 18s

The kit is designed for easy install, not great performance. There are no flex joints in the arms, just short arms with stiff poly bushings, also the coils are mounted in a manner that will also limit flex. The one I have seen on the trail flexed worse then most half decent 4" SUA lifts, not even close to a properly setup SOA rig.

The rockkrawler one that I could find was a coil-over. So is the black diamond one. I have no experience installing coil overs, nor have I even heard of them on the trail. Would it be better if I stayed with SOA?

For the rockkrawler and black diamond its not like your buying a coilover and have to make mounts for it and figure out the angle you want it at, its a kit, thats why you pay so much $$$ for it cause they have figured everything out for you. And if you havent heard of them on the trail, then i dont know what to say about that.........I havent ever seen a rockkrawler kit in action, but I have seen the Black Diamond kit and it works really well...............

I have heard of them, but I havn't ever seen one on the trail. Many people talk about them but don't have the $$$ as you say. :)
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
I think I am soured on the procomp kit, there hasn't been 1 positive response, which concerns me.
The rockkrawler kit looks like the way I will go if not SOA. Its just the fabrication that is kickin me in the butt which is why I was considering the procomp kit.
I wheeled with a guy who had it once a long ass time ago. It was awful, he had NO flex at all, he struggled badly all day on minor obsticles. Here's a pic of the guy, my heep had all 4 tires planted fine on this same line. The dude just fell in with us that day, uninvited. Couldn't drive and his rig sucked.

My SOA flexes a lot more than 10". At Frolic this year a guy had just put one on a YJ and went to do the RTI ramp he scored a 360. I scored a 780. You decide what is better.
A buddy has the RockKrawler kit on his YJ and I'm not impressed. Now the Black Diamond Kit is the sh!t.

rckjeep,
I looked at the black diamond kit, but didn't quite know what to do with the info I had found.
I understand that Warn once owned it, then droped it. Another company picked it up, I forget the name but I think it was Superlift Suspension Systems. Now I have heard that Warn has picked it back up again. I did find a link from Superlift.com titled "Black Diamond: Advanced Off-Road Equipment by Superlift" that links to blackdiamondoffroad.com. So I am making an assumption that blackdiamondoffroad.com is Superlift, or vice-versa.
I am however unable to find any kit on Warns page, or by googling for a Warn kit.
So when people mention "Black Diamond Coil Over kit" I don't know which one they are talking about to understand what is being reviewed.
Is there really only one kit, made by Superlift under then name of black diamond? Also did Warn own black diamond at one time and sell the entire company to Superlift, not just the coil-over kit?

We had a guy in the club with one of the first Black Diamond kits. It had crzy, mad flex. Even though he was open a large part of the time he had it, the tires were on the ground, and had enough ground pressure to move the Jeep.
That YJ above with the flexless Pro-Crap kit also has the world's greatest tires... can't imagine why it would get stuck.:barf:

I know. This guy was braggin about the rig b4 the group I was with headed out. He said he had 13k in it the way it sat  . I honestly didn't see it articulate more than 2 or 3" on any corner. It was fawkin rediculous. That added in with the way he drove made it worse. The result was us tryin to get him straight enough to winch him up the hill. He was more trouble than anything that day. You can even see the group of stockers he was holding up in the background. Me in the orange hat with my boxers ridin up pretty bad. :)

friend of mine has the procrap coil conversion...he hates it and has since he installed it...way overpriced and its a piece of crap...i think it flexes less than a stock yj...literally a few inches of travel at each end. he is taking if off and doin a SOA.
Now lets have a look at this pic:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/mdurham_02/FredholdindownYJwithfootnotreally.jpg
-snorkle
-turdbirds
-winch plate with no winch
-procrap coil conversion
-bushwackers
-3" body lift
-if you can read this sticker
-street locks
...sounds like a dumbass already without even seeing him drive.

Thats what we call a trail tampon! Just plugs up the trail and leaves a mess.
Look at his pass. side rear tire. Did he even air down?

the kit doesn't articulate at all. You go to pull up onthe ramp and at 10 inches off the ground the tire is spinning off the ground. on the trail this makes it very tippy on rocks that shouldn't roll ya. rides great on low end trails and on the road. I'm gonna rip mine out this winter and go with black diamond or other coil over kit, or perhaps go back to leaf springs. Knowing it's limitations I pick my line carefully and with front and rear lockers it gets by. Without lockers front and rear I wouldn't even take it on the trail. Did I mention how far under the axle the hardware sits? Hits everything and destroys the shock mounts as well. rear axle cant be rotated upward to run a CV shaft because the rear track bar mount doesn't line up if you do. Short control arms with 5.5 lift equals tires that don't climb the rocks very well at all due to the steep control arm angle. Did I mention how the front track bar mount doesn't account for any twisting of the axle and eventually fails. I had to fabricate a new one and then bought a front track bar with heim joints. AHHHH! Gonna rip it out this winter for sure.

Look at the rig, think he aired down? I doubt it.:shaking:

Greate info wgilbertpt.
And to everyone else that has responded I really appreciate the help. Especially the pictures (1000 words and all).
I am definately convinced to run like hell from this kit. So now its just a decistion on SOA or coil-over. And that decision is all about $$$.
I am really interested in hearing more about the Black Diamond kit. I am going to get in touch with Fabtech and see when their kit will be available that Teddy Blue mentioned.
If anyone has anymore info on the Black Diamond kit, or info on the Fabtech kit I would really appreciated it. To those experienced on the board should I put that in a different thread?
Thanks again to all.

Just look at the goofy ass grin on that idiot's face. That tells you all you need to know, then look at the fact that he's running poser streetlocks, poser crapbirds, a shitty suspension and an overpriced snorkel - he's certified FDA (fawkin' dumbass)

I would seriously concidder the Rock Krawler coil conversion... yes it is a bit pricey , but I have been running mine for over 2 and a half years... I've totaly fawked the whole front suspention up in a hard HARD roll, I expected to have to pay at least 1500 to 1600 for new arms and fox shox, NOPE! they have a, you break it we bought it warenty, They replaced every bit of it for free. They have made alot of changes to the kit sence I bought it, such as the weld in rear crossmember , the geometry in the front suspention, and they have a new style krawler joint out now... every time they make updates to the kit, they always offer me the new parts at a very discounted rate. They definantly have my vote as one of the best suspention companys as far as quality, performance, durability, and customer service. when my daily driver cherokee is ready for some trail action I will be buying a Rock Krawler suspention for it.

It's good to hear things like that about a company. It goes a long way when considering what to buy and who to buy it from.
BTW, what do you think of Foothills 4x4? I've heard good things.

The rock crawler 8 inch extreme duty kit looks good. Says you can run 35's without cutting fenders, 37 with fender trimming. priced about 3300. I am going to scrap my pro comp kit this winter and likely go with rock crawler's kit. If I do I will do a write up.

they are saving their ass by saying that it can only fit 35's with no trimming, but i like their kits, i think if i was not building my own I would either go with them or claytons, hard choice................

I'll take a look at it at SEMA and post what I find out about Fabtech's conversion. The one picture I have seen did not look to be particullary long arm, but the picture was from a poor angle.
The YJ I bought has front pro crap conversion the rear pro crap had already been removed and converted to SOA.
I am planning on fabbing a coilover and 3 link for mine this December.

Make sure you take a Look at Claytons setup too. Might not be a bolt on as it requires welding, but the quality is top notch and also has a lifetime warranty on the arms. Search the board for Clayton and/or long arms and you will not find a bad word. Open this link then click on "In the news" then look for "YJ coil conversion" http://claytonoffroad.com/

Peter C,
Thanks for the post. I looked at the page, I read the news article. Says at the end of this year, and it was posted in 2004. There are still no product photos, or options to read about it under products for their site. Only the little news blurb.
I will give them a call and see what they say.

If you are thinking of spending $3 G's why not contact a shop and quote on them to build a custom setup for you? Also if you are planning to keep your stock YJ axles, just go SOA, why spend $3000 plus on suspension to keep $100 axles running? No flamming, but I think for $3000 you can do a killer SOA, and even one ton axles, or at least way beefier than stock
