Plasma cutter might work :rasta: there should be an index for a screwdriver to pop it off.

There are a couple of links there about installing the SYE, I know you're not doing that, but they should have instructions on how to disassemble your t-case. Good Luck!

You need to remove the speedo gear, seal, and two snap rings...one on the shaft and one on the inside wall of the housing behind the seal.
Here's some pics to help you along (http://www.darksiderz.co.uk/technical/sye/)
Jeeperman, you sound like you are in way over your head.

I believe you're referring to the tailshaft bearing housing. Once you've removed the 5 bolts you still have to gently pry this off as it is held on with RTV silicone goop. If you were referring to the tailshaft...well, you've got a long ways to go b4 this is removed. THe tailshaft (mainshaft) isn't removed until you separate the rear case from the front case.
WideJ is right, you need to get hold of some instructions. The ones for an SYE (slip yoke eliminator) install would also tell you how to take apart the TC. Try http://www.currieenterprises.com
