I have 35's on my pathy now I, I decided it would be good to regear it when I install the ARB lockers. The people said on AC that 5.14's would be the best choice. I notcied that Nissannut and other SAS'ed rigs are running 4.88s on here. The thing is, would the 5.14 be worth the extra $700 they would cost over some 4.9's from an X?

Yep I love my 4.88's.:cool2: My speedo is dead accurate per GPS.
Do you have an Auto or Manual?. 5.14s are too low for a stick IMO. But if you have a Auto then go for it 5.14s are about the same price.

no such thing as too low. I found a whole 3rd member on ebay for $8 with 4.90's in it. I didn't notice much of a difference when I went from 4.36 to 4.63, so I can't imagine that the 5.14's would be that much lower than a 4.90.

I run 5.38s on my Frontier; only complaint is that the best gas mileage is 65mph and below. I drive it 80 miles a day commute.
5.13 might be a better choice.
but since some X's come with 4.90 stock, hell that might be cheaper than regearing with those spendy 5.13 nissan spec ring/gear sets.

its an extra $700 for 5.14s? wow. id would just go with 4.88s. you would pretty much not be able to tell the difference between the two cause there that close. and for that amount of extra money for just that little bit more of a gear ratio just doesnt seem worth it. im running 37s and 4.88s and my mpg has gotten better on the highway from when i had 35s. go with the 4.88s

I went from 4.6 to the 5.13 and love the difference. I have a 2001 X with 33's, a manual trans. and crawler gears. At 65 the speed-o was 8 miles an hour slow, now it's 2 M.P.H fast. Made the last run to Moab easier. And got better gas mileage:D .
I also took it thorough the Rubicon two weeks ago.Half way thorough I broke both front brake lines. With the new gears had no problem with only the rear breaks:grinpimp:

I was saying the 5.14's would be so much more expensive because I would get the 4.9's used.
I found someone that is offereing a set of 5.14's and ARB's for an OK price. I think I will go with that jsut becaue its a decent used price. If I didnt have this contact, I would get the 4.9's

Unless you can get them at a REAL good price I would use the $700 towards crawler gears which will have a MUCH GREATER effect when you hit the trails.

I have a SAS-ed Xterra and am running 5.14's with 37's and my speedo is with in 1-2 miles a hour. The crawler gears are the best move if you don't plan SASing, right now.

what year is your pathy? I know that they all came with pretty much the same gears but power will make a difference as well.
5:14's would take you back to stock in a WD21. I run 5.38's and i know a bunch of people who do. Little lower but more grunt for the lesser powered engines. Pre-89 had lower hp and torque ratings
