ARB install Day...Sat March 16th...
In the process of installing my rear ARB in my stock TLC rear...I noticed a crack on one of the components...it is the part that is labled...
#9 PISTON (Polyamide) it is the black poly thing that goes around the 4 internal gears...what does this part do? I have already heated and installed the ring gear and also set the back lash...it does not look like it does anything...Can you help?

I cannot find my ARB manual! MAD, so I don't know what part you're talking about, but if any parts are damaged, I would call ARB and have anew part sent to you. I cannot even recall a black plastic type part, so maybe its a new design. I have a feeling that it has somthing to do with sealing or protecting the O-rings? I will keep looking for my manual, if I can see this part it'll will probably help me understand better.

Have you tried an on-line search (Google) for ARB manuals? - often manufacturers have sites where manuals can be downloaded in PDF format.

I always thought that www.ih8mud.com had an ARB manual on Acrobat. I am pretty sure there is one as that is where I downloaded the ARB manual from. If memory serves it was the factory literature section.

dunno if you have the problem solved or not,but if that piston is in any way damaged, you'd be better off fixing it now as opposed to later on somewhere dark, cold and wet...the part in question is the main engagement link, and the end result could be failure to engage, or physical damage due to unrestrained parts flying around.

That's what I was afraid of...looks like I'll be sending it back!
Thanks for the help
