ok so i have a 78 f250 custom.
-Would a driver's door from a 76 fit my truck?
-Would a seat from a 76 fit my truck?
-How can i tell by looking at a motor if its a 460 or not?
-How can i tell from looking at a tranny if its a C6?
-How can i tell what model an axle is?

should
not sure
check the sticker on the engine, if not, there are others, but i am not sure of them
no idea other then the ID numbers.
usually in the 78 f250's it had a HD d44 front, and a dana 60 rear. check the BOM #'s on the web.

yes
and yes All sheetmetal and body parts are interchangable from '73-79. The front clips are interchangeable, but some things like radiators, and beds from 2wd's and 4wd's will not interchange. (frame width difference)
typically 460s are 4 barrels. Some 390's are, some 302/351W's, all 351M/400's are not(from the factory).
The 460 has the thermostat facing upwards, and is on the intake manifold, 390's have the valve cover partially covering the intake manifold. A 302/351 will have the thermostat in the intake manifold, it comes out the front. The 351M/400 has it cast into the block.
THe axles will have a casting on the lip to the bottom right of the pumpkin cover. Will say 60, 70, 44 etc. There are other ways of telling as well, but that is the easiest for dana axles.

awesome. you guys are great help. i did notice the 76 doesnt have any trim on the fenders, door, or bed. how would you go about putting trim on a door that never had trim?

Don't bother is how. Take your truck and rub it againt a big rock or tree. This will properly season your truck.
