: Buggy frame choosing

I've been contemplating a "take my time" offroad only buggy build up(single seater more than likely to keep weight down). The obvious first question is what to do for a frame. I've thought of two routes but am unfamiliar with what Calif. would require for each.

The first route(and most expensive) is to do a complete tube monster. This would probably end up being the "safest", "strongest", and "bullet proof" way to go if designed properly. However, how does one "register" something like this in CA?

The second route is to get a straight frame from the junkyard. I am pretty sure in CA that it would get a "salvage" title. I've done a search here and a little bit at the DMV site but haven't found out what this REALLY means. Can anyone comment on what the effects of having a "salvage" title means in terms of registration?

Lastly, for those who have done "custom" frames, which did you use; square or round tubing? And why?

if its gonna be an offroad only buggy then why worry about it, all you do is register it as an offroad vehichle. of course you might have a problem with this if you have to drive to the trail head:D

Brad... part of the problem is some of the trails I do are considered "county roads". Granted I doubt I would see any enforcement. But with the way greenies are getting, who knows:( Plus, who knows, some of the "better" staging camp sites around Rubicon are just off the road around loon lake :p

Also, by "registered", I am refering to either the offroad sticker or actual registration. Some sort of identification for it... if needed.

The other problem I have is insurance for theft on it. Not worried about damage... just to cover having the rig stole out of the "sideyard", off the trailer, or at the trail. I haven't called around on insurance but who knows what they'll require :(

Salvage titles are for rebuilt vehicles or parts cars that have been totaled by a insurance co.
