: EB D20 or Ford 208
blackx 10-16-2005, 10:45 AM What do you think I should do or what would be better.
I have a Ford 208 (83 Bronco) and a twin Stick Dana 20 (71 Bronco)
The 208 is what is in my Jeep right now. Relax it is not really a jeep it is only the frame and body. Everything else is from an 83 Bronco that I rolled 2 years ago. Just trying to firure out if it would be better to switch it out or not????
This would be hooking up with a C-6 and a 351W
Would I need an adapter/ direct bolt on??
What's your opinions. I am stupid when it comes to engines and transmissions.
rjlougee 10-16-2005, 07:53 PM The Ford D20 is NOT going to bolt up to the back of a C-6 without an adapter. As long as the 208 fits, you might as well run with it. Or, going with another chain drive case, the BW1356 is a pretty stout unit you can usually get pretty cheap. Since about '78 the 1/2 to 1 ton Ford T-cases have been the same 6 bolt, non-symetric pattern and 31 spline output shafts and are pretty interchangeable (output shaft length is a variable: you may have to cut up to 3/4" off).
I'd prefer a gear drive case, like the NP203; however, with a low of only 2:1 you don't have great trail gearing. There are 3:1 kits out there, but they're $$ and need a new case.
If you do go with an adapter for the D20, expect to pay about $450 for the adapter housing and new spud shaft.

bigjeepguy 10-20-2005, 04:04 PM I'd prefer a gear drive case, like the NP205;
:laughing: I changed it to what I think you meant
rjlougee 10-20-2005, 06:03 PM Righto, should have read NP205. The 203 does have a 3:1 kit that uses the stock case and is chain drive.

blackx 10-20-2005, 10:53 PM Thanks that is alot more information than I got from anybody else in the last couple weeks.
welndmn 10-21-2005, 08:44 AM EB 20's need $$$ to live :( 208's suck, just get a 205
blackx 10-21-2005, 05:50 PM Will the 205 bolt straight up to the c-6 without an adapter???
rjlougee 10-21-2005, 06:03 PM It will bolt up without an adapter; however, not without mods. Depending on the year of C-6, you may need to cut out a section on the back so the 205 shifter mechanism will clear. You may also need to trim the length of the C-6 output shaft.
NP205s were also available with different sized output shaft yokes. You'll need to find the right ones for the driveshafts you plan to run. The 1310 size are generally harder to find.

He made a complete sentance that made sense! And i agree with him, while the np208 is not a bad case, it's still a chain drive case.
