I have a set of stock FJ55 springs. I know I can use the rears in the rear of my 40 with some mods. Are the front springs of any use in the front of the 40? How do the 55 front springs differ from the 40 front springs?

Cheers

Ben,

The length of the front springs are the same for a 40, 45 & 55, however, I think fc187 has said that the center pins were centered on the 55, while offset on the 40 springs.

I don’t know why you’d want to put replace the front 40 springs with the front 55 springs.

The rear 55 springs are 3.5 inches longer than the 40 springs.

Both 40 & 55 springs are the same width.

Do a ‘search’ and you’ll uncover good info.

Also check Woody’s site (www.ih8mud.com). I believe Woody runs a rear 55 spring pack on his 40 with some modifications.

Hope this helps.

55 springs have different size bushings and spring eye's as well (front & rear)

Thanks All

I have OME springs with SUA at the moment. I am preparing to do a SOA conversion and intend to use stock springs. The 55 springs were freebies.

Here is something to think about. If you are planning on doing a Shackle reversal when you do the Springover you can use the front 55 springs to (mostly) return the front axle to its original location. That is only if you do not want the added approach angle that moving the front axle 3.5" forward will give you..

The 55 springs in the rear work great!
You will love the flex..

Also, on the 55 spring eyes being larger. They take a bigger bushing too. So a 5/8's (or so) bolt works. The easiest way to make them fit is to take the original stock spring pin and tap the bolt part out of the wide head part. Drill out the head part and you now have a 5/8's adapter for the piggy springs..

Replacing stock front FJ40 springs with Stock front FJ55 springs will move your front axle 1.75" forward, due to the centered pin.

I run FJ55 rear packs (2 sets) all around on my FJ40. Front springs are in @ stock location (.5" forward due to hanger location) and rears use stock solid hanger for 3.5" longer....total 4" longer wheelbase (94")

Do a anti-wrap bar or carry a "handful" of spare center sections on the trail to replace your pinions with.
