A friend of mine is doing an engine swap and for the last week has been trying to get the donor engine to start. It started and ran when he bought it, he drove it off the trailer it came on. Next day he started it and it ran a few minutes then sputtered and died. Since then, nothing. The starter turns the engine over like normal but there is no fire, no cough, sputter, spit, nothing.

It's a 1992 Jeep 4.0 liter HO engine from a 5-spd MJ (Comanche).

Here's where we stand now:
1. We have Spark ( Changed CPS )
2. 39 PSI at fuel rail
3. Timimg is dead on , removed front cover on timing chain and everything lines up.
4. Changed Dist.
5. Changed Coil.
6. New Cap , Rotor , Plugs.
7. Flushed fuel system.
8. Changed Fuel rail and injectors.
9. Changed ECU ( PCM )
10. Used Starting fuel.
11. Can hear fuel Pump.
12. Can hear injectors spraying fuel.
13. Changed Regulator.
14. Changed Fuel filter.
15. Compression 90PSI ( dry )

I have done this a bunch of times when swapping engines. Check to see if your timing is 180* out.

Definitely baffling here. You've done everything right and then some. I'm going to throw some stones into the water here.
Check the following:
CMP-camshaft position sensor, located inside the distributor.

PCM-powertrain control module, located near the coolant reservoir tank, uses three electrical connectors.

Check code readings from ECU? (not sure if this can be done after swap though)

.......RAN A FEW MINUTES THEN SPUTTERED AND DIED.........
still sounds like a fuel problem, whicn a module or sensor "could" be the culprit.

 Good luck and have one of these on me:beer:
