hello, i'm inplanting a 90 crown vic (i know i know, but it's all i can afford for now) EFI 302 into a '76 cj7(no smog to worry about for that old of a vehicle here in GA). i've already taken off the air pump and will probably try to block off the EGR. my question is, "WHAT CAN I DO/TAKE OFF/BYPASS/BLOCK TO MAKE THIS MOTOR A NON-EMISSIONS, EASIER TO INSTALL, BARE-BONES EFI 302?"

if you have any suggestions, please tell me what to do and HOW. thanks-

russel

Buy the Probst pamphlet "Multiport EFI Engine Management Harness" by calling Ford's Tech 'Hot Line' 810-468-1356 for only $5. Then buy or barrow the Probst book and read it, a lot! "Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control : All Ford/Lincoln-Mercury Cars and Light Trucks 1988 to 1993" by Charles O. Probst. Only 28 dollars. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0837603013/qid=1011421351/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_2/102-9229428-7720961

THe pamphlet will answer a lot of question, even though it's for a Mustang.

I am about to do the same swap, but my donar vehicle is an 89 towncar. I was under the assumtion that the mustangs were mass air and the ltd, towncar engines were speed density. I am just starting on them and from the onset they both look a lot alike, even though I know they function very differently. will the probst manual cover the speed density systems as well?

The Probst pamplet is a 25 page how to swap a Mustang 5.0 88-93 5.0L HO into a hot rod. It's for the MAS Air, however it will cover enought speed density to make buying the pamplet worth wild. If going with a speed density I would suggest getting the Probst Book from the library or Amazo for $28 (400 pages) This will cover what you want. Then third I'd suggest the Helms Wiring manuels.

I just did this and finished last night.I used a 87 mustang 5.0. but I took the whole wiring harness apart to simplify it, and do you know that it takes damn near all the wires it came with to run. I wanted to take out as many of the wires as I could so it would be easier to extend to harness and put the computer in the ceiling. But any ways your question. there are two harnesses for the engine one is wraped around the engine and comes to two plugs in the back. (white an gray) every thing on that harness you should keep on it except for the conister purge selinoid you dont need it just leave the plug hang. there is going to be three selinoids in a row on the other chunk of harness (the one that leads up to the EEC) I cant remember what they are caled but you dont need them unplug them and cut the wires out. alot of the wires will go all the way back to the EEC you can cut them out there if you want. if you are using a ac pump for a compressor pull the wires out of the harness (cut them as far back as you can) so you have a long tail to run to the inside. or if your not using it pull the wires out anyway and throw away the plug. for an alternater just get a power master one wire there so much easier. then you can cut the wires out (or just back) . but when you start the project have a wireing diagram and folow the wires on it befor you cut so you dont cut something that slpiced off and went to something else. and make sure you under stand it dont just look at it and see it doesn't go anywher else.
Im sick of typing ask if you have any more specific questions.
