I picked up a 6 speed out of a 2000 dodge today, anyone know which engines bellhousings are available for?, besides the diesel-v10. I'm building 84 1 ton but really don't think I can afford diesel right now. The guy had a 24 valve for sale but think that would be a nightmare unless I could get whole wiring harness. I posted this ? on a couple other dodge boards, apologies for duplication for you who cruise there also.

My recommendation: Not sure about belhousing options for the NV5600. However, you can adapt an NV4500 to just about anything. Therefore you should trade me for my 4500. :D
Not sure about swapping in the 24 Valve, either. I know the 12s are a simple swap (as far as wiring); I would suspect there would be less wiring on a 24 than an EFI gas motor, but not sure.

OK, thought of something that might actually be usefull to you--if you do decide to go Diesel, the clutches are high $$. So, make sure you keep this in mind when buying a motor (ie if it has a good clutch, it may be worth more to you). Also, the stock HO clutches (what would come with a 6 spd) don't hold up to anything more than mild power increased.

i remeber seeing heavy duty replacement clutches from RAM clucthes, if i remeber right, and the tranny is a NV4600 because shes a SIX speed, i THINK they outputs are the same for 4500 and 4600, give Advanced adaptors a call, or maybe Novak, they should be able to help:usa:

the 6 speed is a 5600. as far as i know, there are no other options as of right now with the 5600 other than the 5.9 diesel. i checked into it some when i did my recent 4500 swap.

The NV-5600 in the 1999/2000 and 2001+ rams are differnt units. The 1999/2000 is very close in all repects to the NV-4500. It was also mated to the ETC cummins. In 2001.5 truck it was up rated and matched with the ETH high output cummins. It has a larger input shaft and high torque rating.
Check out http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/Ramspecs.htm
You can get used 12 valve cummins for relatively little money. No computers to deal with and VERY easy to hop up. That would be the easiest way to go. Just run switchs for the fuel kill solinoid, grid heater, etc. All of the fuel system in the 12v is mechanical and extremely durable.

There's an article in the May issue of Peterson's about 5600 swapping and adapters.

The NV5600 is no longer in production and as I understand it nobody is making parts for them as yet, which could make repairs expensive or impossible. This page has some details:

I've seen some references to parts problems on the various forums related to the CTD. I've not verified the issue, but I was considering a swap until I realized that it went out of production.
