Considering putting a flat bed on my short bed 81 chevy. Just curious if anyone knows if a standard steel flat bed weighs more or less than the stock bed?

totally depends on how it is built can weigh less the same or lots more

Most stock 8' pickup beds can be lifted off by two people - one under each wheel arch (an extra guy at the tailgate for balance is nice). If you're working alone, you can usually lift one end of the bed at a time and prop it up with some scrap lumber across 55 gallon drums, then just pull the truck out from under it.

Most 8' fabricated steel flatbeds require a forklift, a gantry crane, or 8 really big people to lift them off the frame.
