Been eyeing this truck for a few years now cause I think it's really cool, but I can't figure out much about it. id tag saya f100 and it has a coded date of manufacture. It has jumbotron five lug wheels with what appear to be oem beadlocks, full time 4wd (flanges, bolt on) who knows what axles, a big ole' inline 6, manual tranny, custom shortened bed, but the wheel well matches the frame (?) Can anyone tell me more about this era truck? ie what axles, CID engine, tranny, t-case. It seems military ish and very stout for an f100 (.5 ton) sound stock, or all been swapped over the years?

pictures?
Yeah pics!!, If it is earlier than 1959 then it has a 90% chance of being a Marmon-Harrington conversion, Ford didn't do their own 4x4 work in-house, they sourced it all to M-H or a few were built by Napco(chevy's main source). For those that say Napco didn't do a Ford conversion I've seen the sales lit. for it. M-H did 4x4 work for ford since sometime in the 1930's and even did work for Ford on the larger trucks Ford needed converted even after Ford Did Light and Medium duty 4x4 work in-house.
Pics would be cool but a VIN would be better:D

I'll see about some pics, maybe this week. I'll see if I can sneak in to see it again without getting shot!!! It has passenger side front diff, and both diffs front and back look to be the same. Same general shape as a chevy 12 bolt but way bigger. they have diff covers, forgot to look to see if they had drop outs. It was dark and snowy! I do know that it doesn't have any badges on it, nothing in the door jambs- the only thing I could find was a little tag in the glove box that said f100 and it had some date code too. I'll keep ya posted.

That does look like it would be a cool rig but IMVHO it is a hack job and not a M-H or Napco conversion. The cab looks to be a 58-59 and the bed looks like it was cut up to fit. If it was to have the stock engine it would have been like a 240 six or the 292 but it has an older flat head.
Axles and springs look to be out of an early 1 ton by the looks of them. It could have been and earlier frame and axles with the late 50's cab swapped on.
I can't tell what type of shocks it has but it looks like it has mounts for the old lever type. 40's maybe? Almost looks like early Dodge ( WWII vintage) Eaton axles. Try and look for tags or other decernable markings.
Is this truck for sale or you just purchased it? More story, where is it at?

yep, bed is totaly hacked. it's missing the front 18" or so. It definatly looks like an early dodge power wagon. the clutch peddle is coming thru the floor and yet the brake peddle hangs from above. the cab and bed have been switched onto this frame.
Too bad, but is still looks pretty mean. If it was cleaned up and a newer motor installed i bet it would be a killer mud rig.
The vin is for a 4x2 plane old F-100.

I agree with duckdon and Alpo23 - Ford body on Power Wagon frame and running gear. Definitely a Chrysler flathead six, and old Power Wagon axles. Bed was cut to fit the Dodge frame. Cab and grille are '58, all as stated. Wrong clutch linkage for a Ford. If it had the six (a 177 was common in those) it'd have had a three-speed column shift T89; the 272 or 292 could've had that transmission or the T98A four speed. Either way, not what's there now.

Well, I finally got the scoop. The owner finally talked to me. Not for sale! location not to be disclosed. (Lance, sshhh) It is a 58 f100 and has been swapped onto a 42 dodge power wagon chassis. Thanks for the info guys, seems as though you know yer stuff! He had a rusted out pw and the old ford truck was 2wd and didn't plow too well, so the two were mated. It gets driven roughly .5 miles a year.
All and all, it is still not a bad looking rig. It's a pity it doesn't get driven more than it does. oh, well.......
