I just picked up a '75 FJ-40 rear axle for my Samurai, and I just want to tell you guys, those things have BEEF! Also, want to thank everyone who gave me advice a few months ago when I started thinking about this. I did stumble across a weird one though. In the yard I found a mid 60's (65?) hardtop with a centered rear semi floating axle. Is that normal? Anyway, thanks again, you guys could very well be the most helpful and cool board here.
Thanks.

hey there newbie!:flipoff2:
most people don't believe you that a cruiser axle is beefier than a dana 44 or a ford 9" until they see one. i think you'll have a hard time breaking one in a sami unless you're an absolute animal.
the hardtop and rear axle you found probably came from a 62 or earlier cruiser. if the rear axle is still there you might want to check and see how much they want for it; unless it's the one you bought already.
the center diff housing comes in handy when you change to a different transfer case although i think they are a little narrower than the offset version and the axles are on the weaker side; only 10 spline. i think moser can build a set of beefy axle shafts for not too much money.:D
