I see a lot of people in magazines runnin reverse rotation dana 44s and 60s but I dont get what it does to make it better than normal. Anyone know?

Anyway, RR or RC (reverse cut) is just the way the ring and pinion gears are cut & this design can be upto 25% stronger than standard rotation.
Also, RC is HP (HIGH PINION) this is helpfull with driveline angles, and pinion angles.

Example: HIGH PINION / RC axles driveline/pinion input is at the top of the pumpkin / diff

LOW PINION / SR axles drive/pinion input is at the bottom of the pumpkin / diff.

Now he knows...

Since when can this board not take a joke? What the fawk happened to this board being for the college level of wheeling?

If he had actually READ the magazines he is referring to he would have found the answer. Big axle article in this months Fourwheeler that mentions the benefits and drawbacks of highpinion in refrence to Curries high pinion third members.

Oh and RR is only stronger when run in the front, its weaker when run as a back axle. :flipoff2:

Hey, SMART ASS, thanks for the straight-up response, I had no idea...

kwrangln, I was referring to Petersons, not four wheeler, so I couldn't read up on it. And, don't worry, I can take a joke. BTW, why is it that is works better with the front axle and not the rear? Does it have to do with power distribution? Thanks guys....

No, it has to do with which side of the gears the power is applied to, the drive side or the coast side.

kwrangln you are a bitch. yeah this board can take a joke but the dude had a legit question. rarely is it EVER covered in a mag or less here what the difference is. i know because I ASKED.

the reason that a RR/RC/HP axle is stronger in the front is because it was designed as a front axle. therefore, the gears run on the side that they were designed to run on. with a normal front axle, they just use a rear centersection in the front housing, so the gears run on the side they are not designed to and therefore are weaker.

make sense?

Good Info, but it's RS, not any of the above. Reverse Spiral gear set, not reverse cut. Check out http://www2.dana.com/expert/ some time.

Hey, I'm in college, and people at school ask plenty of questions that are way stupider than this. At least it's not like he asked how much lift do I need for 33's. Come on. And to all the guys who actually answered the question, way to go. And maybe it's me, but it seems this board has been getting "nicer" lately. That is a good thing. :usa:

Look, I wasn't trying to start World War III here. Rockslut, you're right I probably could have searched, but searching never answers specific questions, thats why I posted. To everyone who says that this post pisses them off or whatever, its simple, don't look at it again. Its not like this board doesn't have enough posts for everyone right?
To everyone who posted a response with some content to it, thanks. I now get the reason why it works differnt with the front and rear axles and what the whole concept is in general.
