I had to overhaul the compressor on Saturday morning at the Gambol. I'll back up a second to tell you that this is an older unit, circa 1988. It seems that the set screw that holds the brass crankshaft on the end of the electric motor had come loose and the motor was still turning, but it wasn't turning the crank.:(

Pulled the crank off the motor and saw that the shaft had been damaged from the set screw scoring its way around the shaft [shaft has two flats] So I cleaned the shaft and the inside of the crank [which still fit snugly] and reassembled it. Worked fine all day.:)

So the question is, has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do about it?

I am thinking I will just take the mig to the shaft and then grind it back down until it has full width on the flats.

Sounds good to me.

or a bit of JB weld might do the trick..

what diameter is the shaft? welding it might result in warpage.......
